When Only Love Remains

A bittersweet love story
"When only love remains" by Durjoy Datta is a haunting story of love between a singer and a flight attendant. I call it 'haunting' because it deals with two deep issues: love and death. The story starts off at a very slow pace. In fact I had to force myself to read the first half of the book. But, in the next half, the story picked up pace to have a beautiful end—an end almost too good to be true. Even though tears welled up in my eyes a few times throughout the book, even though the book was written beautifully with every character fleshed out, I still couldn’t believe that kind of love exists. It’s too good to be true.Coming to the story, it’s about a boy (he’s twenty-one) called Devrat, who drops out from engineering to become a singer, and a girl called Avanti. Avanti accidentally stumbles into Devrat’s facebook profile and nurses a secret crush on him. One day, during one of her flight trips to Kolkata, she attends his live performance at a bar and there they talk to each other for the first time. After that first meeting, the story progresses at a rapid pace, with both of them falling in love with each other. Devrat delivers cheesy, ‘cute’ lines, and Avanti calls him her puppy (which irritated me to no end) and both of them have unnatural, deep conversations. Fate intervenes in the form of an accident on their anniversary. I don’t want to reveal further details in case I give the story away. It’s a regular bittersweet story, but it’s not the plot but lines that is beautiful. Her love for him is so true that it makes you ache from inside. I only hope the story makes sense to eighteen-year-olds in love. I feel I’m already too old for a story like this.My rating 4/5.

A Dreamers dream of love
what i found best in this novel is that it moves slowly and practically with story line.Brings tears into eyes in the second half but happy ending ends happily .So a read must for those who want to go through that has desire, love, drama, pain, again and forever devine love.

My first ever book to read fully.
This is the first book(other than textbooks in school and college) I ever read fully. I am just starting the reading habit, and the choice of this book is perfect for me. The story is so interesting and made me read at all the free time I got.I recommend to people who loved at least once.I also specifically recommend to people who wants to start reading habit as you won’t leave this in between.

Loved it💜
Genuinely loved reading the book. Definitely a book that I would like to read again. Such a unique way to express love. The first book that I read of Durjoy’s was “If it is not forever, it is not love”. That made me fall in love with his work. I didn’t like this book as much but it was somewhere near it. Hoping to read more such books from the author. 💛

Boring
Didn't expect, such a boring novel. I have reached 88th page but yet, the regular life of individuals is going on. Feel like a cheap soap story types. Not worthy to bye. I was a great fan of the Durjoy's writings but now, I am not sure what has he made this novel.....

Good end though writing could have been tauter
I have never read Durjoy's books and this was the first one. I don't know his writing style and whether it has evolved over his 9 works or not. But...lets say most part of the book was a breeze although with not-so-impactful narrative order. The last few pages were rather tight and touching though. And I will credit him for thinking of a palpable and warm twist to close the story.
