Master the art of drawing portraits with Erik Barrett! The face is the most expressive part of the human body, making it both the most crucial aspect of drawing people and the trickiest obstacle for any artist. Worry not, however, as this How to Draw Portrait will help you overcome such a challenge! After reviewing the fundamentals in the beginning pages, you will come to five chapters that guide you from drawing the overall face to other details such as eyes, nose, mouth, ear, and hair. Different perspectives mean these facial features can vary in proportion, cast shadow, size, and shape, all of which can be challenging to tackle. This book presents them through simple illustrations and step-by-step instructions to help you grasp the concepts more easily before incorporating them into your unique drawing style. Moreover, you can use the practice pages at the back of the book to sketch what you have learned and improve hand control, both of which make all the difference in creating good portraits. Very cool!
Really great book for the artist in your life! Bought for our 7 year old. It is a little advanced for her but not so much she feels defeated or gets frustrated when learning from it. There are 7 chapters focusing on different face structures (ie: nose, mouth, hair, etc.). The beginning helps educate on supplies that is ideal for drawing and how to draw with the right amount of force. I can’t draw a stick person but the detailed steps in this book make me want to attempt drawing. Great gift!
