What type of feeder needs to be used?

This is primarily used in tube feeders and enclosed feeders. Open air feeders tend to have less of a problem with caking and sprouting.

Will it work for a bottom feeder?

Hello, I believe you mean a tube feeder where the bird seed is dispensed from the bottom of the bird feeder. Yes, this works great for that style.

I have a standard size feeder. Roughly ow many applications would this bag last?

Used to last me 6 months in northern New Jersey. Now it lasts 3 months because of the increased rain and changing weather. You have to try it to see what works for you. The direction of rain, wind and type of cover you have over the feeder, if you have one, will also be factors. As an FYI, mixing this product within the seed as stated by another review will not do what it is intended to do. It has to be added to the tube feeder before the seed so it sits in a mound at the bottom, just like the website picture shows. It works like a silica / moisture bag would. I don't know about layering it between seed, but it's always best to follow the mfgr directions.
