Better than expected
I expected this to be trash. I needed an add-on to get free overnight shipping and thought why not. My friend use to have a recording studio in the attic where we lived and it was pretty well treated against reflections. He had a nice set up with even bass traps and stuff. Nearly 20k+ equipment in a college dorm. I knew I’d likely never have a setup like that so I got a Shure SM7b, which is a dynamic mic. It has great off-axis rejection on nearly every side except behind. This means it works pretty well in less treated rooms and is good at blocking ambient noise. I used to live in line of an airport and a busy Highway, so that was important. All this to say: I thought these would do nothing, but they immediately reduced reflections. My noise sounds less boxy and almost echo-y. A much dryer, crisp sound. I might buy more of these panels lol. A little goes a long way, but I didn’t really need to stop side reflections. Put a few of these behind and to the side of you and you’ll be surprised. I didn’t soak them in water or wait very long. They immediately popped up and seemed like the right dimensions. I left them a few hours and they looked the same. Basically zero smell. I left them overnight just in case, but they still looked fully expanded and didn’t smell. I used 3M medium command strips to hang them up. They are super light so that might even be overkill. But it was a lot easier and cheaper than spray or double-sided tape. These are a great value and for my purposes did more than enough. If you want something to isolate sound or sound proofing, this is not the product. But if you want to minimize noise bouncing everywhere, this is great. Plan to get a lot more than me if you have a bare room with no furniture or use a condenser mic.

Effective in absorbing the echo from the piano
We needed something to help absorb the big sound that was coming out of our Yamaha piano. Our piano tuner suggested using foam behind the piano on the wall and also in between the studs on the rear of our upright piano. We ordered this product and it was amazing how the two uses in concert together helped absorb the echoing and the glare that was coming from the piano. They are easy to use and designed a bit differently with those kinds of fingers that reach out and absorb the sound. Well worth the cost. The piano now sounds great.

It's great, but expect to throw some away & manage expectations.
Bought a 36pc and an 18pc. Both times soon as ive taken it out of the packaging at least 80% of them expanded perfectly on their own in minutes, the other 10% needed some extra time or manipulation (rubbing, gently pulling apart). The other 10% were completely unsalvageable so expect to throw some away. (8 out of 54 in total, might be more or less for you.) I love the look, good quality for its price, makes the room look way cooler(I used command strips), just dont expext it to solve all your problems. best case scenario it helps get rid of echo and keeping a bit more sound inside your room.

Good quality at an affordable price.
These foam panels work great for sound deadening. Much cheaper than most options while still providing good quality. I highly recommend them.

Not what I was looking for but good
So right out of the packaging, they inflate to full size, which is awesome. The only issue with them is that they don’t even kind of block sound. They kinda help with sound bouncing off the walls but even that’s mediocre. These make great decor, but that’s it really. Definitely not for sound reduction, but look great.

Quick fix for the panels that look rough
Just got my third round of these 12x12x2 panels and a majority them looked pretty rough - thin, curved, edges looked like they were glued together, etc. If this happens to you maybe this'll help: run the panels through a quick wash cycle, wring them out with your hands and try to pull "apart" and fluff them up around the problem areas, then toss them in the dryer for around 30 mins. Worked like a charm for me.

Value for the money!!!!
I have a 450-capacity wine cabinet in my dining room (DON'T ASK!!!) It keeps our wines in great condition, BUT the compressor sounds like a UFO is escaping and a Stealth bomber is going after it! I put these Acoustic Studio Absorption Foam Panels up using 2 sided adhesive strips, and OMG!!!!!! These made a substantial difference in the sound level in my dining room. Also in the bedroom, the TV room and way over there in the kitchen. It keeps our wines in great condition, BUT the compressor sounds lie a UFO is escaping and a Stealth bomber is going after it!. Sadly, the next day was a day of ruin. The stupid 2 sided adhesive strips stuck to the wall.... but let loose on the foam tiles!!!!! They were all over the floor, and my blissful moment came to a vulgar end. After much research.... and several of those perfectly stored bottles of wines I came to the realization that all double sided strips, spray glues, and even glue guns will eventually fail. On the drywall side, or more often....actually ....OFTEN, they will drop the foam tiles. The internet consensus is that the best way to put these up... AND KEEP THEM UP.... is to use push pins, or thumbtacks..... DONE!!!!!!!

Purchased 20 Packs! Tested No VOC or Formaldehyde
1) Not Toxic! I have an Air quality meter and I set these next to it after opening. No bump in either VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) or Formaldehyde (HCHO) levels! These do have a new mattress type smell mixed with the smell of pet food, but maybe they were stored a long time in a factory. It isn't a very strong smell, even with 120 of them unpacked. 2) They do decompress eventually! They took a lot of work to decompress! Leaving them out did not bring them to their full decompressed state. I had to lay flat under sanding water in my sink and get all the air out by pressing down against the bottom of the sink with my palms. Temp of the water didn't effect them. I found I was able to do this 10 at a time which for me was helpful since I have 120 squares. I had to gently wring out each square after getting all the air bubbles out, since the water was soaked up into them like a sponge that wouldn't let go. I left them out thinking they would dry (12 hours ish), but since these trap whatever they absorb for a long time I got impatient and had to put them in the dryer on very low for an hour. each load I did notice the pet food smell when taking them out of the dryer but it wasn't harsh, seems natural ish, or at least inert. Very sensitive people may not like these due to the 'perception of toxicity' which on the scale of 1 to 10 would be around a 3 3) They Hang! Before writing this review I hung 6 on the wall - I didn't use Adhesive, I used long thumb tacks which works for my needs. These are VERY light weight. Essentially, think air conditioner foam light. A part of me wonders if these were blocks of Air Conditioner Foam laser cut and then immediately compressed into plastic for shipping. But I'm not an expert so that's just a theory. 4) I can't speak to sound proofing ability but I feel like these will only help with echo. If I notice a massive difference maybe I will edit my review, but my sound gear wont arrive for about 7.5 years probably (jk). 5) OVER ALL - I LIKE them a LOT. If only just for the futuristic style look! They definitely give a perception of being able to improve my sound quality, so for my dates watching a movie with me that works fine. ;) Final thoughts: The value for money isn't really there. If you can find this style in another product, I would opt for that. I probably wont buy these again unless this style doesn't exist in another more dense product. The time wasted on decompression was money I could have spent elsewhere. Buuuut... the style tho! Ugh - just so cool! :)
