It's good substantial rope made of soft cotton fibers.
After reading so many dismal reviews of rope dog toys, I decided to find a good, substantial rope and make one for my dogs. I compared three different brands of 1" unbleached cotton rope. The SGT KNOTS says it's made in the US. The other two were from China. Much of what we all purchase comes from China, and that's okay, but I noticed that the images of the coiled ropes from China looked lumpy, as though they weren't tightly made and wound. At that point I was comparing the SGT KNOT rope at 10' long to other brands, one of which was 50' long and the other was 65' long - both with prices in the $30 - 35 range versus $25 for the 10' US piece of rope. If you expand the item descriptions, there's a chart with item specifications, and I noticed the weight of one of the longer ropes was a little over 7 pounds for a much longer rope. Doing calculations to determine comparable weights for comparable lengths of rope, I noted that the two from China were similar and the SGT KNOT was more than twice as heavy per matching length. I figured the lighter weight ropes must be more loosely wound and either had thinner fibers or fewer of them, either condition making it easier for a dog's teeth to tear apart. So, I purchased the SGT KNOT 1" by 10' rope. The rope arrived in two or three days and looked good. Both ends were taped to keep the three strands from unwinding. Using just a Swiss Army knife, it was surprisingly easy to cut the rope into two pieces. I used a piece about 4' long for the dogs. I tied a big knot at both ends and let the two dogs have it to play tug-of-war. My mistake was not taping the cut end. In minutes, the puppy made short work of untying my knot, and the three coiled strands began to unwind. I braided and tied the three coils together and knotted it twice, and so far it has held. My failure to secure the cut end of the rope by taping it is my fault - the rope is good rope. The puppy had begun playing with it right away, and some of the time the puppy and adult played at tug-of-war. These are Pyrenees mix dogs, so quite large, which is why the rope needed to be a good quality substantial one, while still soft and non-toxic. So far both dogs and I are really happy with the SGT KNOT choice. In the photo, the two dogs are playing with the rope on lightly snow-covered soil.

Do it yourself dog chew rope toys are awesome
We bought a 10 foot length of the 1.5 inch rope to make dog chew toys for our 120lb dog. It is really a great product. My three kids each got a 3ft length and made their own style toy for the dog. We still have about 3ft left over, as SGT Knots sent 12ft 8in of rope - thank you for the bonus! The rope comes in a three strand braid which needs to be tied off at the ends in a knot or wrapped with electrical tape. We made several of the chew toys by unbraiding the rope and using a single strand. So, we now have 6 large chew toys of very high quality, plus material to make one big one or a medium and two small ones, all for under $25. One single chew rope can cost $10 or more, so this is a great value. The cotton weave is very tight and tough. My dog is a heavy chewer and loves tug of war, and though I just got this rope, I expect the chew toys to be very durable. I also like the fact that this is an all natural product that is made here in the USA, so I trust that there are no harmful chemicals or ingredients.

Good quality natural fiber!
If you want a high-quality natural fiber rope, that is strong, this works great. I used it for making tomato trellises because I didn’t want a lot of plastic soaking into my plants. This fit the bill perfectly.

Recommended, just not for me
Beautiful, tight, sturdy rope. A bit of flex, but pretty solid. While it didn't work at all for the purposes I bought it, I definitely recommend it to anyone with a need for reliable rope. Tip: if you need to cut it, make sure to at least tape off each end surrounding the cut or else the rope will begin to unravel/fray at the split, and it's tough to get it back to that same tightness after it starts coming undone. Oh, one more thing: give the rope time to air out before you need to use it. Definitely has a bit of smell.

Good stuff—Size issue?
First this is top quality rope, good for my needs of nautical fancywork with a sturdy lay. The problem is the specified diameter. What I received was 1/4” even though I ordered 3/16” and the package label said 3/16”—documented with the two photos. Customer service is kindly sending a replacement and hopefully the diameter will be an actual 3/16”!

Great rope at a great price!
So when I bought this item there was two reviews. One (1 star) and one (5 star). So I took a chance and ordered the 3/8 diameter rope and got a 600' spool just like the rest of the reviews. To be honest the top of the rope was a bit dirty when I took it from its box. But that is not an uncommon thing considering it is rope and it comes from a warehouse. I took the time to brush off the dirt and dust and it really wasnt as bad as I thought it was. So yay! Second concern the "splicing" first of all all rope is made from of bits of fibers put together. So yes. There is some of that and yes it does appear to be on relatively close to the surface of my rope as well but for my use this is fine and I dont mind.. so again... not a biggie and not an issue truly.. 5/5 stars I will be buying this again good quality quick shipment and awesome price!

Very Nice!
This rope is nice! Very soft to the touch, and very tightly wound. My wife and I bought this to use for different craft ideas, like hanging tables/baskets, dog toys, etc., as well as for diving into some shibari. For the crafts it holds up really nicely. To cut it I would suggest using electrical tape at your desired length and some very sharp scissors (at first I used Pruning shears before purchasing EMT shears [I definitely emphasize using EMT shears if you are going to use this for shibari]) If you're wondering how it was for the shibari, it was great, from a newbie perspective. The rope does have some bite to it since it is like little ropes braided into 1. Which does make it not super easy tie and slip through for some knots, but it is still very manageable. Overall I definitely plan to purchase again.

Nice quality. Seems to be durable
Used this to weave a top to a foot stool. The stool had previously had rattan for the top but wanted a different look for this antique stool. Decided to use rope and found this. Only drawback would be it tends to twist when weaving, especially at the end.

This rope is beautiful! I purchased the 1” cotton rope. The fibres are lovely. I’m going to be dyeing a portion of it, excited to see what happens!

I bought two types of rope from Sgt. Knots, I expect this was a good example of the quality of their rope. Other suppliers have gotten mixed reviews, whereas these folks seem to care about the rope they sell and should be a good source for any rope user.
