One of the very best I have read lately
One of the very best I have read lately! Keeping in mind this is the 1st time I have read any work of the author, I was pleasantly impressed with the writing style, and with the plot. I have just finished the 7th book in the series( audible mode) and I only wanted one thing - THE NEXT ITERATION.I do not really have any important cons for this series. I have enjoyed every one of the books, and boy, what an amazing ride it has been. About the audible I'd like to mention that the 2nd narrator (starting book 4 I think) was much better that the 1st one, which was a little to flat for my tastes. Also, the authors couldn't agree to some pronunciations. For example 1st started with Milla, than switched to Mia, then the 2nd went back to Milla, etc.I also do hope, that by the next book, they will figure out that a good resealable bag should help with the transition sickness, instead of splashing it all around the ship...jeez, not sure how they didn't figure that one out...lol.Overall, awesome job Evan, and I can't wait for the next book. Please don't take too long!

Good, but...
Good, but...This author tends to forget about things that he's previously written. In book 1, much ado is made about the close-range Drasin weapon that will completely disable any ship and use the energy/mass of the ship to repair itself. By the time this book comes around, the Odyssey is blasting through Drasin ships like tissue paper and even ramming them. (end of book 3, I think) What happened to the close range weapons???And as other reviewers mentioned, it seems like the author completely forgot about the Imperial faction and what they were doing the whole time that this war is going on. Book also has very one dimensional characters. Weston is the most awesome everything... pilot, commander, strategist, soldier guy... But really we know nothing about him.So, it's a fun book and a quick read. I'm picking it apart because I enjoyed it.

I love a good space opera...and this continues to be one of my favorites!!
OUT OF THE BLACK: ODYSSEY ONE BOOK 4EVAN CURRIEAs I always do..or do not do...I am not going to get into the names of characters, little of the plot and so on as that is just not my way. The author does that in his blurb so you can read that if you want to know more about the characters and the plot.I will just say simply that this offering continues the story line very well and leaves me wanting more...even after 4 installments read. I can see this going on for something before I can say that the story has been told! To me..its that good. This is not a stand alone read and you must read the previous 3 to fully appreciate this story and its characters. After the world war that ended humanities appetite for war, the Confederation sent its flagship “Odyssey” to the stars on a mission, a mission that started an event that takes them to the worlds of powerful new lifeforms that threaten humanities existence. The Drasin are a breed unlike anything Captain Eric Weston could ever imagine....destruction of worlds is what they do best. Captain Weston and the “Odyssey” are unwittingly into the fight of humanities life as they try to help the Priminae repel the Drasin from destroying the Priminae world and in succeeding find that they have invited this horrible pestilence back to earth with the Drasin's prime directive to eliminate humanity once and for all. It can only be a fight that brings earth and its people together for one last stand.Sure as in all books there are a few little blips....but very few in this one. I love the fact that its a shared ground war and space war.....with some great characters that make this a story worth knowing.Take a chance and enjoy the ride!!

Good, but Not Great Finale to this part of the Story Arc
Good, but not great. I say that because while book 1 was good, book 2 was great, and book 3 was incredibly awesome (6 stars!), this one was more along the lines of the first book, albeit with much, much less grammar and word usage errors (You can definitely notice that Evan has matured as a writer, in his word usage, his mastery of grammar, etc...)(Minor spoiler) One thing I missed was little, if any, mention of the beings who controlled the Drasin in the previous books. Obviously, that is left for the continuation of the series, but as was mentioned in other reviews, this part of the story arc has been completed.A bit annoying is the protagonists mastery of everything, from aeriel combat to starship piloting, to ground combat, to armored vehicle combat, to sneaky infiltration (mentioned as part of his past history). I'm an active duty Marine, and while I like to think we are all the best at everything, I do understand that no one is an expert at all things, but in this book, the protagonist is. Somewhat stretches credibility.Another thing that bothered me was that the capability of the heroes to defeat the Drasin ships varies throughout the book, even within the span of a page or two: it will go from one of the new ships (Heroic class) only being able to defeat 3-4 Drasin in close combat, to two pages later, the same ship defeating a good twenty or so of the Drasin, again in close combat (not using the wave guide long range weapons, which are a game changer, obviously)All in all, a good read, well worth it, and I will continue to purchase Evan's books as they come out.I do have to add that I use Evan's Warrior Wings series as a benchmark for his other books, and while this series don't quite match up to the Warrior Wings series, it is still very good (4-5 stars for every book in the series).

Taut
As is common with this type of series some explanations are repeated too often. For example I now know how the tachyon cannons work and don't need telling again!I still think the pace and engagement of this series is excellent and as an over 60 I am thoroughly enjoying this saga. The twists and turns and the yet to be revealed keep me reading.

👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent read. I read the whole series back to back as I found the story and characters engaging. The tension and pace as the story unfolds in the black of space, coupled with the technology to get there makes this Highly recommended.

Acceptable but not brilliant
This is a bit more disappointing when compared to the other books in the series. It offers - despite teasing it the whole time - no answers to the most obvious questions readers would have after reading the series, and it seems like it was only partially completed to be utilised as a lead in to the new spin off series.Ignoring that, however, the book was quite enjoyable nonetheless. There are some worth-while mentions as to unexpected changes in character and writing style, but I still found the book pleasant to read at least.

Gaining momentum
This series goes from strength to strength. Pulp sci fi it may be, but it's good pulp sci fi. Looking forward to the next one (already downloaded)
