Really loving this game!
I got this for my 8 year old son to use during the summer before 3rd grade. I figured it might be a little hard but was hoping that with the different levels it would be challenging but not too frustrating for him. It's been great. I admit, it doesn't have the cool graphics or interactive interface that the jumpstart worlds have, but my son loves it and it's been really great practice in all areas. I had to help him learn some of the math concepts (how to simplify fractions, rules for rounding large numbers, etc.) but now he's doing it all on his own. The geography section is pretty hard too, and it would be awesome if there was something they could click on for a hint, but with a little patience he's been learning lots of cool facts and is learning great geography. Overall, definitely a great value (although as I'm writing this my son just said he thinks he beat the game, and we've only had it a week . . . =-)

"Sucks!" is too kind
There needs to be a "no star" rating. There is no way to move back and forth between levels if your kid cannot finish them. If you cannot finish the Mah Jong level - not because of math skills but because the tiles don't line up - you have no choice but to do it over again. You cannot progress otherwise. Both my wife and I are very computer savvy - I design databases for fun - and this software is beyond salvage. The authors should be forbidden to write software. The positive reviews were written by company stooges who never used the product. We want our $15 back plus the hours of our lives we wasted on this sadistic product.

For newer computers you must make adjustments
After making proper adjustments, it works amazingly

More inspiration to learn
This game has quite alot of info and different games on it. It is interesting to play and is helpful in getting my 9 year old granddaughter to study. Some of the information is very advanced for the stated grade level...Opps I didn't know the info on it and I've had 2 years of college. I would guess you would have to help your child to figure out how to approach solving the various problems presented, but that is what teaching is all about. This game tries to be a bit of everything, in that it has math, reading, history, science, etc. For less than a lot of books it's fun.

Hard, but realisitic goals
I am a special education teacher in 5th grade, and I purchased this item for a more relaxing review for some of my students. I just began using it and was so happy to see how many stat standards were convered in the math portions of the game! The questions were difficult and students needed paper to figure them out, but these are realistic things for students to know going into 5th grade. They really enjoyed it so far, and I'm excited to order the 3rd grade game so my lower students can also have some fun!

Forge Through 4th Grade with a Solid Foundation
I bought this for my Great Nephew to give him a solid foundation of the skills learned., yet not fully mastered. This, , like other JumpStarts Programs, initially gives Students/your Child, the firm basis to grasp concepts before presenting critical thinking situations to challenge their abilities for mastery of new concepts. I bought this to help him acquire these skills for 5th grade in September. I am a retired Elementary/Early Childhood Educator.

very educational
Jump start has many great learning game software. I also get my kids reader rabbit games. My kids enjoy both. Jumpstart is challenging and fun. My daughter asks if she can play it and as a parent it is always ok to get educated. I recommend this to parents who have a pc and allow their kids to use it for educational purposes.
