This card reader and SanDisk 128GB MAX Endurance microSDXC Card were recommended by a Youtuber specifically for Tesla Sentry Mode. Almost 3 years later, the combo still works fine. I guess they passed the test.

First purchased one of these in August, 2022. Then I bought another in July 2023. Then another in August 2023. And another in February 2024. And finally another in May 2024.Why do I have so many? Well, the technical reason is because they're perfect for maintaining daily backups (bootable, the entire disk) of the Raspberry Pi's I have around the house (and one on a Pi I built out for a relative). And one for just general usage when I need to access a micro-sd card (like the one from my critter cam).They're perfect. I never bothered to verify their speed, mainly because even with USB 3.0 things rarely move very fast in relative terms.Yes, they do get very warm, particularly when plugged into a Raspberry Pi, as they are all metal so act as an unintended heatsink. A napkin or tissue wrapped around it while removing it is all you need if it's too hot for delicate fingers, not a big deal. When sitting idle in a PC USB port, it's slightly warm, not hot.I just ran CrystalDiskMark on one, I've no idea if the numbers (in the attached photo) are good or bad, but the limiting factor will likely always be the Micro-SD card, not this reader.Review summary: Great!

Purchased along with a High Endurance 256GB microSD card in order to upgrade the sentry mode storage capacity in my '24 Tesla Model 3. The car immediately recognized, formatted, and began using the new flash drive.

I installed a 256GB and a 64GB MicroSD and copied some stuff from my hard drive as a backup. I didn't have any issues. Now as for "speed"... well any techie who really knows anything about computers will tell you it all depends!!!I installed this on a Linux laptop running quad core i7's and get an incredibly fast copy time using 'dd' with large block size copyI installed it in an old Intel desktop that has a USB-3 PCI card and get different but more than acceptable results... I tested it using a USB-2 port and of course it was way slower. That's NOT the adapter's faultI installed it in my Gaming desktop set at turbo mode in a USB3.2 port and get very fast speeds...And what else makes a difference??? The MicroSD card itself!!! I used SanDisks Ultra Plus - 64GB and 128GB cards. I've got other branded MicroSD cards which are much slower than SanDisk... so my quoting numbers is pointless because it all depends on so many variables, If you copy 1GB of 1,000 small files it will take much longer than copying a single 1GB file. It also depends on the block size that the copying software uses.... copying at 4kB blocks at a time will take considerably longer than copying using a block size of 64kB... So that's why I won't quote the speeds???Bottom line, I found in my environment it works for what I need it at speeds I'm more than happy with. I also like the size and it's easy to grasp to insert/remove.

These modules run hot if to do not run them with a good strong power source. I run 8 modules on an 8 port USB3 EXPANSION UNIT with an external power source, and they run cool. Otherwise they run too hot to touch.I am very happy with the product, now I found a way to get them to run cool.

PUrchased this for my Tesla model X dashcam/Sentry mode and it works great! Finally landed on this when I tried at least 5 different brands/kinds that I had. Fingers crossed it lasts....

I noticed when testing this against other, faster card readers, that the device throttles the speed unnecessarily. Micro SD cards that read at 160MBs read at 93MBs, and write at 80MBs rather than 105MBs, just as an example. And that seems to be a hard cap, as when I tested even faster cards, they still topped out at about 93/80. So it seems like the device limit.

I bought this to use for capturing sentry videos on a Tesla MY. This worked great. I haven’t had any issues with it. I paired it with a microSD card used for video cameras since they are high performance and made for being overwritten. I highly recommend it. This approach will save you on energy as well versus going the SSD route.

The card reader has been working well up until now, and I haven’t had any problems using it. Its size it is really good to be carried everywhere. It is a little bigger than a quarter. Although, if you wonder about carrying it on a keychain the answer is no. There is no hole or a key ring to put it on your keychain. I didn’t really care about this as I thought of disassembling it to use in a project that I planned on getting to someday. So keep that in mind if you were looking for some kind of pen-drive keychain.The material from which this product was made out of doesn’t feel sloppy as other SD readers I have seen out there. Further to my previous comment about disassembling it, I found that it is difficult to do so because all is really closed made of an only solid plastic case. It is not made of two parts that just pop up to be opened. So although I wasn’t expecting to be that way, this is a positive point just because it’s shown to be a good product after all.I like the fact that instead of putting the micro SD card on the back, it goes into the usb tip. I also have to mention that there isn’t any cap to cover the tip, which it can be a disadvantage. The SD card fits kind of tight inside the slot, so it is very improbable that it will fall down due to the lack of a cap. Yet, you still have to be careful and keep an eye on it if you’re on your way down to somewhere and as the saying goes “better safe than sorry”.

Works well. Minimalistic.
