The Dalai Lama's Book of Love and Compassion

MINE is AUTOGRAPHED! And never opened otherwise
I'm not messing up this book by reading it. I have a friend who was a Buddhist monk. He still lives that way. I'm going to give it to him. Buy myself another copy. For anyone interested, I worked with a man who is a cousin of the queen of Tibet. The Chinese locked her in her "house", never to leave for the duration of her life. My friend and his family had to flee, as even cousins were some kind of threat I guess. I really, really liked this guy. Here he was having to start totally over, probably in his 50's, with children and he was working a factory job. Which was NOT as glamorous as it sounds! HAHA! But this man and I managed to have jokes, laugh and enjoy our time at work, anyway. The point being he was the epitome of what the Dalai Lama represents and teaches. I didn't know anything about the teachings at the time. But I read them now and I can totally see and hear my friend laughing and talking in the same way. It brings the encouragement needed to strive for such goodness as a way of life.

Among my best books
This little booklet is like a precious gem, like a little diamond that radiates love and compassion as its light. I have stumbled on this booklet at one of the airport bookstores. Since that time, I have read this little book so many times, that it fall into pieces ;) . Then I glued the pieces together again, and tried to translate it to my native language. This helped me to deepen my understanding and practice of the subject, and I think that reading this could help a great many people these days. If you feel that you are not loved well enough, or if your ability to love and to be compassionate is not as developed as you would love to, this little booklet might be just the thing that you would wish to read. Wishing you good luck and all the best.

Sorry, they can't all be 5-star reviews.
In the first half of this book, His Holines the Dalai Lama dispenses the simple wisdom so familiar to readers of some of his other texts. Based on a talk given by His Holiness in Great Britain, the first half of the book has all of the easy ebb and flow of any open, honest discussion. It is charming, disarming, and profound. The second half of the book, however, consists of a series of sometimes esoteric, exclusively Buddhist questions and answers. This Buddhist catechism is undoubtably of great value to Buddhist parents seeking to raise observant Buddhist children. It probably serves well for new converts to Buddhism, also. However, for the rest of us, the second half of the book can quickly become dry and boring. His holiness has so many great books in print, please do yourself a favor, unless (1) you are seeking to raise good Buddhist children, or (2) thinking of converting, read something else.

What is true love and unbiased compassion
Dalai Lama explains what is true love or compassion and how it is different from attachment. He also clearly shows the positive impact of these positive emotions on overall mental health and every day life.

Good read
If the Dalai Lama was really all about love and compassion, he wouldn't be running around murdering trees to print his books! Ok, maybe he didn't cut them down himself, but his army of lumberjack monks might have! Regardless, it's a good book, I liked it. Ramma damma ding dong!!

Short but good
I very much enjoyed reading this book, after having got into mindfulness i thought i would explore some other books on compassion. I did partly expect the book to be bigger, it is very small but it is good.
