Just dehydrates? It doesn’t do what they state…..mis sold!
After looking into the product all it does it dehydrates the food? It would be much cheaper to just buy a dehydrator or put the waste into an airfryer? It said it would produce good compost but after reading how it doesn’t meet the threshold to even be classed as compost, it’s mis selling. Compost needs to be moist or all of the soil life that is needed in order to help plants grow died, it literally kills everything you need to make good compost? The machine is pretty pointless. It’s just taking advantage of people’s lack of knowledge and green washing as far as I can see. They should be more truthful so it is clear what you are really buying, which is as above a really over priced dehydrator.

First Impressions from a product engineer: - I had never heard of this technology so I was immediately fascinated by it - a way to help my immediate environment - Nice looking unit - Would be better if it was narrow fronted and deep as opposed to wide and shallow. Takes up more horizontal counter space the way it is - You have a live hinge on the back of the unit but wing nuts on the activated charcoal holder (back one). Design out the wing nuts, too small for many hands and easy to drop/lose - Initial setup - the bags of activated charcoal are too much for both holders so should be zip lock or just mention pour it into the back container and then the top one. It reads like one bag should go in the back and one bag should go in the top. Better yet just supply the charcoal in bags that fit the containers they go in - The manual says to unplug the unit to pull out the basket - this is very inconvenient. You should have a switch to prevent inadvertent operation with the lid off (if its not there) allowing the power to be plugged in while you are filling it. Actually I just ignore turning it off, it beeps at you when you pull the top off but that is fine. Now that I have used it for a few weeks: - Makes very nice organic laden dirt. I am not terribly scientific about what goes in, but what comes out looks good and my plants so far have liked it. - It's a bit louder than my dishwasher at about 55dBA, so I start it before I leave for work. It is not bad, I just have an incredibly quiet house so it is loud in comparison to other devices - it is nice to be able to clean the composting chamber in the dishwasher but the lid you cannot - it is not sealed and fills up with water. - you do have to slide it out from underneath the counter in order to pull out the basket or put larger amounts of waste in it, a slightly smaller chamber that is shorter or the chamber being in the front rather than the side would have improved loading. - My kitchen trash can no longer smells, and the Lomi does not either (unless you pull the lid off without processing the garbage) It's a keeper, and while it takes up a little more counter space than I would have liked, it does exactly what it is supposed to do and does it well. it appears to be well engineered and well made, so I hope future models take into account user's comments and suggestions.

Es un gran producto solo que es muy grande y tarda mucho tiempo en compostar. Debes considerar las dimensiones para saber donde ponerlo en tu cocina!

I’ve been trying to get a Lomi for a long time. Saw a demo a couple years ago, and with the recycling laws here in Germany, made this a no brainer. Got mine today, and it’s better than advertised. I stuffed by it with the plastic it was packed in, a paper bag full of bio. Worked great! Extremely quiet. Will use at night and morning will be done.

While it would be great to be focused on my carbon footprint and composting for the good of it, sadly my needs are much more basic - eliminating fruit flies. We recently moved to an area that has only biweekly garbage & compost pickup, and have to keep compost hanging around for that length of time - it stinks, especially in summer, and the flies are insane. People in the area resort to freezing their garbage to avoid this! Needless to say, not everything that we have to keep (meat, fat, bones) can be composted in the backyard, nor do we relish carving a path through snow in winter to get there. The Lomi has saved us. It works beautifully, and in the cases it hasn't, it was our fault, not the Lomi's. It's easy to get the hang of, works like a dream, and turns all of our kitchen waste into dirt. We are running it 2x/day most of the time. We keep the Lomi in the laundry room next to the kitchen, and don't find it noisy or disruptive in the least. We can't even hear it most of the time. Now, we just have the dirt produced, which we can safely toss in the garbage. No more stink, no vermin outside, and no fruit flies inside. I use it on the standard 8 hour cycle, as I'm not trying to add to the soil (90% of the time what we compost wouldn't work for this anyway) and it's never failed to do a great job. I clean it each time, wiping down the lid and washing the bucket. The finish has started to come off the inside of the bucket, but this hasn't affected function, and we have put ours through the wringer!! What it hasn't handled well: - massive amounts of red food colouring (go figure - this just can't be broken down) - scraps from butchering both a brisket and whole beef tenderloin - it sure tried, and reduced it magnificently, but the grease is darn near impossible to process, and I get that. - egg shells. They just don't seem to break down. What is has handled well: - full holiday meal debris, including all the scraps from gravies and food waste, leftovers - this was a surprise as I didn't realize my husband had dumped the scraps on top of leftover gravy, so it was more liquid than I'd usually put in it. - expired pantry goods - any fruits and vegetables, unsurprisingly - baked goods - most meat/fat/bones in "reasonable" amounts This device is an essential now for us!
