Cage for Sony Alpha 7R V/7 IV/7S III/7R IV/Alpha 1 with VG-C4EM Battery Grip - 3594

The SmallRig Cage for my Sony is fantastic! It provides excellent protection while offering versatile accessory mounts, making it perfect for various shooting setups. The quick-release plate allows seamless transitions between tripod and handheld shots, and it’s great that I have full access to all camera functions, including buttons and card slots. The three-point locking system ensures stability, preventing any shake or movement, which is crucial for high-quality shots. With multiple mounting options, including 1/4''-20 and 3/8" -16 threaded holes, I can easily attach different accessories for diverse photoshoots, from handles and monitors to lights. The built-in NATO rail and cold shoe mount add even more flexibility to my setups. Plus, the rubber pads inside prevent scratches, and the magnetic spanner makes assembly a breeze. I also added the optional Cable Clamp 3000 for added protection. This cage has significantly improved my shooting experience, allowing for a range of setups tailored to different types of photoshoots. Highly recommend!

You need the actual SONY battery grip. The knock off branded battery grips will not fit this cage because the screw/mount hole on the bottom of the grips are in different places. So only buy this if you have the SONY battery grip. Would be nice if SmallRig made a slot for the mounting screw so you could slide it back and forth to fit the knock off branded battery grips. But other than that, this cage is fantastic.

It is a few millimeters off to be able to open the battery slot so you have to end up disassembling it each time to swap batteries. It does come with a nifty tool that sticks to the unit via magnet to make it easier to get to the battery slot.

This cage only works with the genuine Sony battery grip. Other makes, like Meike, does not work. This is because Meike (and others) placed their screw hole in a different position. Others have left reviews stating that the cage doesn't fit. This is because they're attempting to use the cage on a non-genuine Sony battery grip.

Perfect fit! No issues with installation. Good addition to the camera body for protection and attachments.

I want to clear the issue some other people had with installing this cage in regards of the battery cartridge not opening, well is more of an installer error. When u install it, make sure the cage aligns withe lines of the camera, specially when u look at it from the bottom of the camera battery grip, I align it and it will fit perfectlywell, the battery grip cartridge opened flawlessly. I would recommend this cage to a family member, I'm buying a second one for my Sony A7R5. Great product.

Very light weight I'm running a1 with a Neweer grip. It does fit but you have to loosen up the battery tray if you don't charge via cable. If you could find another cage that would be better. I could not seem to locate one.

Definitivamente funciona a la perfección, aunque dicen que no encaja bien, puedo decir por experiencia y por otros comentarios que leí, que el problema de que no se abran ciertas tapas (batería o memorias) es por no leer adecuadamente e instalar según tú cámara, es muy fácil, cada orificio dice para qué equipo es, sin duda excelente accesorio para mi cámara.

Bought it today to be able to use it on my A7 IV with Neewer battery grip (replacement for Sony VGC4EM). The camera with the grip on it does sit vertical on the cage floor as if I do, the side edges of the cage will block the battery grip battery compartment to slide out. Even when you push the side slider fix points on the cage all the way to forward, the camera still has problem sitting vertically. It seems the screw hole on the cage floor needs to be a bit further back (maybe 2-3 mm). - The other problem is the limited access to video recording button on the top of the camera as the cage is very close to it especially if you use a hand strap on the cage. Easy if you have very small hands. - The hex sockets on the M2.5 screws fixing the camera to the cage on the sides or the ones on the slider can easily loose their inner sharp corners and will not turn any more if you try to tighten them a bit too much as the as the steel is soft. Happened to one of my screws on the right slider.
