One of the bestest books!!!
So far I am in second round of listening this book in audible and ordered a paper version to keep it to myself. The authors are awesome and very knowledgeable. A lot of stories from patients that were treated with niacin. One of my favorite books so far. Will be ordering more books of this author.Update!VERY IMPORTANTI took Niacin on a fasting for more then one day stomach, my usual dose, 1000 mg, that did not even really gave me flush before. I was shocked how painful my muscles become. Even after flush is gone the pain was unbearable to be the point I had to take pain pill.

An Apprenticeship in Niacin
This book discusses the history and use of niacin therapy for a variety of human ailments. Although I didn't learn much more than I already knew, it's still a good book and should be added to your library. One reviewer complained about "old research" and how the book "quotes dead doctors". That's laughable. Most of the pioneers of orthomolecular treatment lived well into their 80s, and many into their 90s . Roger Williams, Abram Hoffer, Linus Pauling, Albert von Szent-Györgyi, Josef Issels, and William Kaufman just to name a few. Conventional western medicine didn't account for their longevity. The sensible application of therapeutic and supraphysiologic dosages of essential vitamins and minerals did. These orthomolecular legends outlived their own quack doctors.Almost everyone on planet earth is deficient in one or more vitamins and minerals. Chronic deficiency leads to disease. Dr. Bruce Ames explained this with his Triage Theory. Ames is currently 95 years old. I guess that makes him still quotable. If you want to live a long and healthy life, give your body the substances it needs in the amounts it needs. Buy this book and other books like it. Immerse yourself in the wisdom of those trailblazing dead doctors and live healthily ever after.

EXCELLENT RESOURCE
This updated edition of NIACIN The Real Story is an EXCELLENT resource for those who want up to date, comprehensive, validated research regarding this amazing micro nutrient. The chapters include the efficacy on chronic conditions such as heart disease, mental health, arthritis etc. The authors provide the history of the safety of niacin used by physicians in their practices throughout decades of treatment, and include patient testimonials. This updated version contains over 47 PAGES of research validating the safety and efficacy of all forms of Niacin (including niacinamide and inositol hexaniacinate). A MUST read for those who prefer to address the symptoms of niacin deficiency, (and niacin dependency) in lieu of big pHARMa protocols.

Repetitive
The living author took excerpts from Dr. Hoffer and seemed a bit patronizing towards those people on antipsychotics wanting to get off with very little information that could be helpful. Instead he spends most of his effort talking about cholesterol reduction and arthritis and repeats himself in various sections of the book.

Looks like old research
I was very disappointed in this book. They quote Doctors that are both dead. I didn't see any new research on arthritis. Since I got the book, I have an article by Dr. Mercola "Are these the 19 most important supplements to take?" He quotes a microbiologist in the section on Niacinamide. Evidently you shouldn't take large quantities of it, because it impairs your sirtuin longevity proteins. It is counterproductive. I noticed in the book they said you needed to take it for at least 2 years at the high dose they recommended.Wish I could send this book back!
