There were some things that I had to reread, like the section on divisional charts, but Ms. Sutton's take on Jyotish is thorough and explained with a lot of care. She explains all the basics like the navagraha (nine planets), nakshatras (lunar mansions or constellations), bhavas (houses) and rashis (zodiac signs), all in simplistic language. She goes even further by teaching you HOW to convert a natal chart from tropical to sidereal (which is what Vedic uses) by calculating the difference in degrees, known as Ayanamsa. She ALSO teaches the ancient philosophy of the Vedas, of which Jyotish is a branch of. I mean, look at the table of contents, she's leaving no stone unturned in terms of taking those first steps. The rest is up to you! Overall, this is an EXCELLENT textbook for any astrology student looking for more knowledge. By the end of this book, she guides you through a chart interpretation, synthesizing all that you have learned in the earlier chapters. Hey, perhaps you could help someone else on their learning journey! Ms. Sutton is an wonderful teacher who shares knowledge freely with the hope that you humbly understand. Wonderful
I gave it a five because that's a great book. It's well written and covers all the important points that a beginner need to learn. Ms. Sutton is clearly the best, her predictions about Princes William and Harry are spot on. This book inspires me to keep learning Vedic Astrology. I truly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning Vedic Astrology.

Gran introduccion a la astrologia védica
Este libro me lo recomendó Robert Koch (autor de Spiritual Dimensions of Vedic Astrology) como libro introductorio a esta ciencia. Está explicado paso a paso, con ejemplos y bien documentado. Excelente trabajo de Komilla Sutton.

Ottimo libro
Libro completo di quasi tutti gli argomenti di Astrologia Vedica. Scritto in maniera chiara e concisa. Se uno vuole trovare un difetto, manca la parte relativa ai rimedi e necessita di un maggiore approfondimento sull'interpretazione. E' un Bignami Jotish! ed è perfetto insieme a Frawley e Braha.

Pour un chapitre
La première fois que j'ai lu ce livre, je ne l'ai pas estimé à sa juste valeur. Pour l'ensemble, c'est une revue des bases, sans grande inspiration, un peu diluée. Je l'ai mis de côté parmi les livres sans aucun intérêt. Puis je l'ai réouvert et ai relu quelques passages du chapitre "The Bhavas", où l'auteure décrit les positions des maîtres de maison dans chacune des maisons, et là, c'est différent. Dans ce chapitre, Komilla Sutton est très inspirée, fine, et surtout, utile. Fait rare (!!), ses descriptions concordent avec la réalité! Ce chapitre est un des meilleurs que j'ai trouvé sur ce sujet, et pour moi il vaut à lui seul le prix du livre.

Must read introductory book on Vedic astrology
One of the better introductory books to Vedic astrology. Learning astrology requires significant memorizing capabilities, in depth experiences in life, and an understanding that astrology is a stepping stone to spirituality. I could connect to author's statements through out the book at a deeper level. Unlocked a few things in my life, deep gratitude.
