Mom's rec room lights went out & I purchased these little lanterns so the electrician could see to set up. It's a neat little light. It has a high setting, medium and nightlight. It's not like my 300amp Halogen work lamp nor is it supposed to be. However with the power out, this latern definitely lights the way. I particularly like that it takes either 3 'D' Batteries OR 3 'AA' Batteries. No matter which Batteries are in the house, as long as there are 3 of them of equal size I'm good to go. NOTE -- Please Do NOT use all 6 Batteries at once. The casing is hard plastic and should last a good while. I also set it high on a shelf so my Mom can see better at night without the ceiling light. It casts a soft bright light without yielding a blinding glare. It's definitely a Buy. Absolutely. Works well. Batteries load easily and seems to last a good while. The price is also nice. I bought two. My daughter likes that it's an Energizer. Probably subliminal comfort reminding them of the Flashlights we used on trips when they were younger & they played with the funny toy Energizer Bunny in the car.

This lantern is great, not too large or too small, has a convenient handle to carry it by. The bottom unscrews easily, pop in the batteries and screwed bottom back on. Just that easy. Love the three brightness settings, changed with just the push of a button. The highest setting is plenty bright, the next is a medium brightness and then the much lower setting which is perfect for a night light. Bought them for power outages and so happy I did. Can't speak to whether the settings provide the number of hours stated in the product description as I just bought them and haven't had to use them. Just had a big snow storm and gave me peace of mind to know we had these handy in case we did lose power. They are fairly lightweight, the three D batteries adds a little weight but not bad and there is the second battery option since it can run on three Ds or three AA batteries. Very happy with this purchase.

Good amount of brightness. The color is a nice bright red so it’s easy to find. I like how it has a charging port for your phone. Only thing that doesn’t make it a 5-star is that when I turn it on and carry it, I get blinded because the light is all 360 degrees. Maybe they could have blocked out the back. At the end of the day I would buy it again.

**Firstly...read the instructions people!** It clearly states 3xD cell as primary (and or 3xAA in a pinch) ..don't try and jam both types of batteries in this lantern. **Who ever reviewed this lantern while providing pictures of their remedial attempt at jamming both types of batteries in it *at the same time🤪* and then complains about it? 🤨 **out of self respect** *remove your review and photos* Anyway...back to my review. This thing is a tremendous improvement over the old Coleman double mantle white fuel lantern from back in the early 20th century and or the double fluorescent tube bulb from the late 80's-vintage into the 2000's. This modern versions intended use is for home power outage or for car camping where weight,size and portability aren't a requirement. It isn't large nor is it small(see dimensions and specifications in description. With that mind let's delve deeper! With the (intended) D sized batteries running this efficient led lantern running on the D cell batteries it will last for days on the medium setting! On the high setting *1st click* its 360° lighting pattern easily lights up a large room in a way similar to a ceiling light on high dimmer setting. On the medium setting *2nd click* its comparable to a 60watt equivalent led table lamp. Being an led lantern its led's color is bright white...which is tamed a bit by it's frosted diffuser lens. The 3rd click is a nightlight setting which has a more pleasant yellowish orange hue with the brightness and feeling very much like candle light on the candlelight setting you could probably run this thing 24/7 for a couple of weeks,maybe longer! For $20 this is a good value seems well built and has the ability to use EITHER D cell or AA batteries for it's power source. *The AA batteries of course reducing it's run time compared to the larger capacity D cell batteries* For me its performance and the versatility of being able to use EITHER 'D' sized or AA sized batteries made this purchase a no brainier!

I rarely write reviews but wow, it’s amazing! You can use 3 AA’s or 3 D batteries and it’s super lightweight if you choose AA’s. The handle fits my hand perfectly although it does feel to be slightly cheap material so it’s not meant to be tossed around but it helps the lantern be lighter. I do own the 1000 lumen more modern lantern, but it is MUCH heavier, you need a screwdriver to access the batteries and the way it distributes the light isn’t as good as this light despite it being 500 lumens I feel it illuminates a room better. I bought two and I see myself picking up maybe another or two, I suffered from the Texas black out earlier this year and I was not prepared, I ran to buy headlamps on the spot so now I’ve been slowly gathering stuff in case of an emergency and I highly recommend this, the access to the battery compartment is super easy, it screws on like a thermos lid or a peanut butter jar lid. More than anything it illuminates the room well and I would recommend buying one for each general room and one to carry around with you like to the restroom and stuff. I debated the black model, but it appears the red model sustains the battery life on low for many more hundreds of hours since it can’t charge other devices and well, in an emergency you want something you can quickly find, as much as I love black colored tech, I buy emergency items in red or reflective materials and I leave them at easy access in my home.

Purchased this to add to our emergency equipment. I like the way that it works and it puts out enough light for a medium sized room.

The instructions on the packaging are hard to see. In VERY FINE PRINT it says to use 3 "D" batteries OR 3 "AA" batteries --- NOT BOTH!! "D" batteries are definitely more expensive than "AA", and many people don't store them. (The last time I bought D batteries, they had only a couple of years left until expiration date.) Here's the deal: It's "D" OR "AA", but NOT BOTH!!! In fact I did it wrong the first time, and I forced in all 6 batteries. You have to really use force to get them in. The thing didn't work (Duh!) and I had to use pliers to get them out. I was about to start a return request, and then I looked again at the fine print, and saw the "OR." So I used three D batteries only, and no forcing was necessary. You have to twist the bottom on exactly right, but the lantern turned on right away. It has 3 settings and is very bright on the highest setting. (I am assuming if I were to use 3 "AA" batteries instead of "D" batteries, it would not be so bright.) Anyway, I do recommend this lantern. Just don't make the same mistake I did.

My Dad bought me one of these years ago and it is still working perfectly. It’s a rugged little light but not heavy and it’s got a great handle to carry it around. It’s got different light settings (bright, dim, even an orangy nightlight one) I’ve mostly used it for power outages but I’ve taken it camping and on a few adventures… I’ve also since had kids as well and it’s been bumped, tipped and dropped and still keeps on working. It’s by far my favourite lantern. Also, the batteries seem to last forever so it’s not draining power by any means. I saw this one on Amazon so I grabbed another one to have a couple for power outages (as my kids are afraid of the dark and freak out if they don’t have nightlights in their rooms) so this fits the bill perfectly. I also find it lights up my living room perfectly when the power is out. My Mom loved mine so much, she went and got herself one too lol.

Awesome lantern if you can get D cells for cheap, otherwise expensive to run often. Be careful with NiMH batteries as their is no voltage cut off and it will over discharge them, my $25ea D cell batteries ($75 worth) have had their capacity greatly reduced by accidentally doing this a few times.
