BURNOUT is an innovative new product that was literally designed by rocket scientists. ThermAvant International specializes in the integration of military and space application heat transfer technology into consumer products. Our first major product to market is a temperature regulating travel mug that operates without the use of electricity using a 100% renewable material called Heat-Zorb. Branded as BURNOUT, the first version of this travel mug quite literally takes the "burn out" of a scalding cup of coffee. It does this by cooling the coffee from a dangerously high brewing temperature down to the perfect drinking temperature right away. It then holds the perfect temperature range all day instead of cooling off too quickly. It also holds cold drinks ice cold all day. BURNOUT operates using the biobased, synthetic beeswax, Heat-Zorb, which is built into the wall of the stainless steel tumbler and melts at a very specific temperature. When a hot drink is poured into a BURNOUT, Heat-Zorb melts in its chamber, absorbing and storing the extra heat, which cools the beverage to the right temperature. Once the optimal temperature is reached, Heat-Zorb automatically starts releasing that stored heat back into the drink to maintain that perfect drinking temperature all day. In addition to the thermal performance, BURNOUT is dishwasher safe and made at our factory in Missouri, USA. This makes us, to our knowledge, the only stainless steel drinkware manufacturer in the United States. From hunters to skiers and office warriors to truckers, coffee and tea are the lifeline for a large majority of the working adult population. BURNOUT's Drink Now Technology is here with one mission. Fight The Fire. Keep The Heat. Review: A must-have improvement over the other one - This lid is a 100% better than the original doesn't leak and I can now want to drink out of the mug again before the other lid was so bad I almost didn't want to use this just make it's locked before putting in bag Review: Mixed feelings - Torn on this one. I really enjoy this lid compared to the original for the following reasons: - Can gulp coffee faster - Much much easier to clean - Flip top is convenient However, in my opinion it doesn't seem to be manufactured with the same quality as the original. The plastic feels much cheaper and the glaring flaw here is that the hinge is just a tiny / fragile spring wire. I feel like if I don't baby this it's going to snap off pretty easily. The latch on it as well isn't the best, it works, but not as smoothly as you might expect. So kind of a mixed bag, I really like it, but the price tag is a little steep for what you get. The original lid was ok, but near impossible to clean which ultimately made me look for a replacement. This will do but I would really be surprised if the lid doesn't break with normal usage.

Huge improvement over the old lid
Old lid was leaky and fragile. This one opens a bit easier than I'd like -- so I wouldn't recommend just throwing it in a bag and forgetting about it -- but it's much improved over the old design.

Easier to clean but poor design
I love my Burnout mug except for the top. It is so hard to keep clean, so I jumped on the opportunity to buy this new lid. I have had a Zojirushi insulated water bottle with the same type of lid for years and it has worked flawlessly no matter how many times I have dropped it. Not so with this new Burnout lid. The latch is also the lock. Push in for opening and up for locking. The Zojiruchi has these two separated with the lock on the side. I have never dropped the Zojirushi and had it open, whereas the Burnout lid opened 9/10 times when I gently knocked it over on the kitchen sink. Why? As you can see in the picture, the Zojirushi top is protected with a lip that surrounds it. This prevents the lid from accidentally opening. The Burnout top has the latch sticking out with no protection. Also, it is not a very strong latch when you close it. I can apply gentle pressure to the lid and it will open easily without me touching the latch. Between these two flaws, the lid would open almost every time it got knocked over unless the latch was locked. So... if the mug is full with the lid closed but not locked, there is a very good chance that your coffee will wind up all over the floor, carpet or your briefcase/purse. I reordered the old lids. I'd rather struggle with cleaning it. If you still want to use this lid, my suggestion would be to lock it each and every time you close the lid to prevent spills.

Best thermal cup I’ve ever had, but it is a bit heavy. Girls probably won’t like it.
Works like a fine piece of machinery! And it’s made in the USA.

I prefer the original design.
Flip up top is not as convenient as the original. Leaks unless tightened an unreasonable amount.

Good lid
I like it. It does make gas station coffee drinkable right away. The lid is convenient.

Good lid
The two parts needs to be kept aligned so the lid needs to remain open while you screw it in and the parts held together while tightening it. The sliding lock also needs to be engaged when in a bag.
