A Gentle, Practical Way to Address Focus and Attention with Young Children
As a school psychologist, I am always looking for materials that gently educate children in a relatable way about their cognitive processes, and help them begin to "think about their thinking." In Steve Herman's new book, "Train Your Dragon to Focus," Diggory Doo Dragon has to learn first by disappointing his teacher, his friends, and his adoptive mom that in order to have success with his grades, with being a contributing member of his soccer team, and with keeping his room clean, he has something he needs to learn: how to focus and not become distracted. When he asks his friend Drew for help, Drew comes up with practical suggestions, such as looking at the teacher's face in school, keeping your eyes on the ball during soccer, and setting a timer to get chores done at home with reasonable breaks. Steve Herman has done it again, adding a new pearl to his string of excellent books in the series about Diggory Doo the Dragon.

Hit the bullseye
This book was very helpful and relatable! Both of my daughters struggle with “right brain weakness” (likely undiagnosed ADHD (one hyperactive and the other inattentive)), and I could “see” my girls in at least one or more of the examples given. This book will by no means “fix” all of your child’s struggles with focus, but it could help them feel understood, accepted and hopeful instead of helpless, as they learn a few tips and tricks they can apply to their own lives.(It’s too soon to say how much of an impact this book will have on our family, as I am the only one who has had the privilege of reading it thus far, but it is very cute and the girls love the “Train Your Dragon” series, so I know it will be a blessing.)Thank you Steve Herman for creating yet another gem!

Great lesson within all these books
My family absolutely enjoys reading these books. They are an easy and fun read for the kids. My daughter looks forward to bedtime because of these books. Each book also also has a great underlying lesson that the kids can easily understand. For reference we started getting these books when they were around 4-5 years. Definitely recommend every one of these!

Focus dies require discipline of mind and body
As a fan of Steve Herman ,I recommend this book for its specific ways of maintaining focus and " tricks " for being focused !! I also recommend that reading his earlier books on Following Rules, Being Responsible, Understand Consequences, Follow Instructions etc...would set the stage for focusing despite distractions!! Bottom line for all of us is to acknowledge the problem ,try strategies ( look at teacher, recognize what is distracting, work first then play, set timer etc).Focusing is a big problem which we all have to some degree Examples of how to improve focus are good but discipline ,in my opinion, is the key

This was ok for younger kids
My son has ADHD so it's difficult to get him to focus and pay attention. I think the ways to help kids focus in this book might work for younger kids who has normal attention span but not so much the ones with ADHD.
