A Classic
Probably even more practical today than it was in 1989. Easy to set up, 10 year battery, quality Casio and does for work. Great value.

Cheap, Functional, Durable, and Now Comes in a Whole Bunch of Colours
Even before retro became fashionable, I've sworn by this watch. It's functional appearance certainly has its charm, but what really makes the Casio F-91W-1YER great is its simplicity and longevity. It's a watch that does watch things - it very clearly displays the time in either 12 or 24 hour format with a little green light for telling the time in the dark, it keeps track of the day and date, it has an alarm and the option to have it chime on the hour, and it has a stopwatch with lap function. It does everything you want a watch to do, for a very modest price - I've seen plenty of watches cost far more but do far less. That's not all. It goes on forever. Well, not literally, though it certainly feels like it. I've owned mine for somewhere between five and ten years now and I've not had to replace the battery once. Also, despite working in a laboratory with a million-and-one different ways to melt plastic, corrode metal, kill circuits, etc., not to mention regular commandeering by a toddler over the past year, it still looks almost as good as new. I've friends who work on building sites and in the armed forces who can attest to the durability of this watch too. It has, as far as I'm aware, only one Achilles heel, and that's the strap. This tends to wear out before the actual timepiece does and once it's gone, you might as well just buy a new one. That said, it's not like they wear out quickly (mine's still as strong as ever), nor is it as if they cost a bomb to replace. Other minor (and I stress the word "minor") issues include having to reset the date on a leap year (oh no, I have to spend a minute setting the date on my watch every four years - whatever will I do?!) and the green light not being powerful enough for some folks to see the display properly (should've gone to Specsavers...). Anyway, to end on an up-note, here's my conclusion - buy this watch. It's cheap, functional, durable, and now comes in a whole bunch of colours. What's not to love?

Good product. Be realistic about it's image and you'll be fine..
This is an excellent product in this day and age. It's exactly the same as it was thirty or so years ago. It hasn't changed one bit. Has nice charm and retro appeal. Has good water resistance and feels like it will last years and years. It does its job and the alarm is louder than every other watch I've ever had. It actually wakes me up. But be realistic. You won't be wearing this to too many social events. It can come across as quite nerdy, especially when compared to more modern big watches. One person even thought it came out of a vending machine at a kids fairground. You know the one where you put a coin in and an egg comes out with a toy watch in it. But I like it. It's small size actually works in it's favour for the job it does and makes it more practical than any other watch I've had. I don't notice it on the wrist and I can sleep in it. True, it has got an old school LED but I can make out the time in the middle of the night. It really is a wear and forget watch. It's nice not to have to worry about changing the date at the end of the month and the stop watch is being used every day to time pizzas in the oven. So all in all it's a yes from me. You're wife will hate it with a passion just as mine does and so might some of your friends. But for the price it's amazing. Casio quality just as it was in the 80's

Basic, functional and cheap but strap breaks after just a few years.
Basic, functional and cheap but strap breaks after a few years, so not very environmentally friendly as it's often cheaper to buy a new watch than get a new strap fitted. Yes, I know you can buy replacement straps but they're very fiddly to install and not that much cheaper than a new watch!

Amazing watch, well worth the price
I bought this YEARS ago and its still working, im talking about 8 years, Its so easy to use, and read, perfect brightness for day and has a button to light it up in the dark. The time is still correct as well. No problems with accuracy and the length of time i’ve had it proves that its such good quality!

Classic cheap knockabout watch
To start with, I see comments regarding the fact that this watch is not waterproof. Well, it is rated as water resistant, which means up to 30 metres of static pressure. In the watch world this means it is splash proof only so don't be surprised if you swim in it and it dies. It's ok in the rain. That would not be a fault of the design! The design is classic Casio circa 1989 with a crappy backlight, stopwatch, once only daily alarm, hourly chime, month, day, date, hours, minutes, seconds. Casio have been making these for over 30 years and produce around 3 million a year. This is probably the best selling wristwatch in history. It's small, the strap is small, however it fits my 7. 25 inch wrist ok. The strap will wear out before the battery does if you wear it all the time, but replacement straps can be purchased for under a fiver and changed in 2 minutes by pushing out the pins in the direction of the arrow with a paper clip held with small pliers. Most people just buy another f91w. It's under a tenner, it is accurate to 30 seconds a month, and you can throw it in the air and let it land and it will still be ok. This is my 3rd. I don't know what happened to the first one. The second one is still going on the same battery after about 6 years and I bought another while they are still under a tenner. You get what you pay for and for under a tenner these are great value knockabout watches which you don't need to worry about doing anything in, just don't criticise it if it dies after swimming. It isn't designed for that.

Excellent watch! No complaints!
I own a number of watches, I suppose I am a collector of sorts! and I have recently taken a shine to Casio's older retro style watch types. I am very happy with my recent purchase and for the price paid for this watch I have no complaints whatsoever, like the majority of reviews. In fact for the price paid I am very impressed and the watch is exactly like the picture and as described. Really cool, old school retro look. After making my purchase I became concerned after reading some of the negative reviews, in particular the ones which claim this product is counterfeit. I really don't know why people are saying this or what their agenda is, maybe they are competing sellers! I would like to confirm the watch I received was a 100% genuine Casio product. I received it properly packaged with instructions, warranties and registration details. I watched U tube videos telling you how to spot fakes and all I can say is the product is totally legit. Some reviews have complained the watch has a cheap look and feel to it! To these people I say, if you pay £6.99 for a watch, personally my hopes would not be astronomical! Some people clearly expect too much! It is what it is, a cool, retro, old school Casio. If this is what you are looking for, buy it and if the battery in the watch lasts half the time Casio claims it does it will be worth it. Some reviews have have complained that the watch looks too small on the wrist. Again it is what it is! I have a number of large oversized watches like G-shocks which I enjoy wearing. So in comparison, yes this watch is smaller but it's just a matter of getting used to it and it looks well on the wrist. The size of the strap is fine too unlike some negative reviews have said. I would say my wrist is bigger than average and I can close the strap with 3 notches to spare and it fits well on my wrist and is comfortable. The last criticism I would like to mention which is common in the negative reviews I read is the "Water Resist" aspect of the watch. People have claimed they submerged the watch in a bath and it broke! Of course it did! To educate these individuals, a water resistant watch without a depth indication is designed to withstand accidental splashes of water only. You should not submerge such a watch in water at any time! Alas, with the negative criticisms dispelled, who would I recommend this watch to? Anybody really to be honest! Male or female, any age! Whatever your reason for purchasing this watch, at the price you don't have much to lose and in my experience any genuine Casio product is of a high standard and lasts.

Cheap and virtually indestructable
I work as an activity instructor in the outdoor industry and these watches are as good as uniform. I once asked why everybody had one. The answer: They are incredibly cheap, waterproof and they do everything you might need. I've only had mine 6 months but it's taken some abuse and has a deep scratch on plastic housing to prove it. The screen though is still perfect which amazes me. I bought this because it had a stop watch and to stop me damaging my other watch but this is so comfortable and light to wear I only use this one! Part of me wants it to die so I can replace it with one in orange or green. If I'd known it was going to last so well I would have done so from the start. I've not been diving in this watch but I've been swimming in a lake, been out in some pretty nasty downpours and it's been in the shower everyday. No problem..not even with using buttons. I don't use the alarm at all. I have a clock to do that but should I need a reminder I would use it..not sure I would trust it to wake me up in the mornings. The stop watch runs for an hour on a loop. If like me, you use the stop watch a lot you are unlikely to get the 7 years out of the battery because the reset button and light are the same and the 7 year life is based on 1 sec light usage per day. If you want a functional watch that can take as much as you can throw at it go for one of these. If you break it you can always grab another because it's so cheap!
