Perfect, versatile little jars
I hesitated to buy these at first simply because it was a set of twelve. I didn't think I'd need more than four and the rest would become yet more unused stuff jostling for storage space in my crowded cupboards. But I'm totally converted now. I bought them initially for making yoghurt – they're the perfect single portion size, as well as looking nice – then realised how versatile they were. They make handy mixing jars for dressings, drinks glasses, or even mini-vases. So they're nearly all in use now.I've been using Kilner, Le Parfait, and similar lidded jars all my cooking life, but Weck ones seem far easier to sterilise with hot water – no nooks, crannies, or parts to go rusty – so I plan to replace all my preserving jars with them. Small word of warning: the steel clips are very strong, and if you don't make sure you've snapped them fully into place, they fly off with surprising force. (Yes, one pinged off and hit me in the face. My own fault, not the product's.) But that's the whole point – once in place, those lids stay sealed These are no-nonsense cook's jars that just happen to look stylish as well.

Simple to use, work well!
I first saw these jars in Holland, in a very smart Deli-style shop selling beautiful jams, preserves and Dutch produce. They looked most attractive, but having used them for my own home made jams, chutneys and marmalades, I can now thoroughly recommend them,The Weck system offers a wide range of jar capacity, but the same rubber seal size can be used for jars with different capacities - making this an economical system. The glass lids are preferable to the metal ones which are more usual in the UK, but I find these don't last all that well, and have to be re-newed regularly. The jars have survived our daily use, and depite misgivings that clipping a jar closed with metal clips would somehow be time-consuming or even difficult, they have proved no harder than screwing a lid on and off! When filling the jars with hot jams, jellies or chutney, I think you need to take a little care not to over-fill the jar, or the contents will squish out when the galss lid is fitted. Also, you do need to remember that the seals are made of rubber and will perish if you put them on a jar filled with oil.Overall, I think the Weck jars are a good investment. They are simple to use, and the contents are well preserved.
