This is a first impressions review, and I will write a full review after using the bag for a few months. I travel to the US from Ireland quite a bit and I was looking for a new carry-on bag, that could hold my laptop, tech, and spare clothes, in the event that my checked-in bag got lost somewhere (which has happened before). I spent a lot of time researching several options and I whittled a list of about 10 bags down to this one: the Targus EcoSmart Mobile Tech wheeled backpack. I wanted a hybrid bag, something bigger than my daily laptop back, but not as big as a 10Kg wheeled suitcase, and one that could primarily, hold spare clothes, toiletries, and my tech. I knew I also wanted the option to wheel the bag through the airport and easily wear it as a laptop bag when in the US for going to the office. I looked at several wheeled laptop bags from all the main brands, like Samsonite (which I normally go for), or bags like the Osprey Farpoint, to even a whole range of other wheeled duffle bags. Quality and buying a familiar brand were important to me, which is why I spent time to research options. At the end of the day, my choice came down to; does the bag meet all my needs (practically) and is it at a reasonable price. I compared features, sizes, weight, reviews, etc, etc and I settled on the Targus. The Targus EcoSmart bag arrived at my house this morning and from the second I took it out of the packaging; I could feel the quality oozing from it. I am really impressed with what I see in this bag. It’s a nice weight, and the finish is smart/professional looking. There are tons of storage pockets and grab handles everywhere. The front of the bag has a small zipped, top compartment which is 200mm deep (very nice for phone, passport, etc). Next, you can zip down the full front section to reveal the laptop and tablet compartment, plus more zipped mesh pockets. Next, is the main compartment, which opens clamshell-like. Loads of space for shoes, clothes and toiletries, plus it has elastic compression straps and yes, MORE mesh pockets. The telescope handle is nicely hidden behind another zipped compartment, which is a little fiddly to get out, but it’s good quality and the perfect height. I’m 6’ tall, and I think it’s perfect. The shoulder straps are quick and easy to deploy and are nice a neat when hidden. There are more side pockets too. Overall, on first impressions, this is exactly what I needed and is exceeding my expectations. The youtube videos sell it well, but it’s even better in real life and I hope the quality of this bag lives up to what Targus say. I am travelling to the US soon, so I’ll put it through it’s paces then and report back.

I’ve been using this Targus roller bag for a few months now and it’s been fantastic. It fits my laptop perfectly, with plenty of room for accessories, documents, and plenty of clothes. The build quality is solid , and the combpo of the ruck and wheeled is great, wheels roll smoothly, ideal for commuting or general travel. Good value for money and exactly what I needed for work on the go and a family trip.

Very Solid build. EXTREMELY NOISY tired. Use it everyday for nearly 2 years. Tires have now worn out. Back still in EXCELLENT condition. Not sure if there are replacement tires. But those tires are NOISY.

When travelling through airport security with a laptop the one thing you don't want is to have to unpack the lot in order to get the laptop out and on display. So I was looking for a backpack that offers the comfort of opening a zip and out the laptop comes while the rest is still securely stashed away. I also wanted something I can either roll or carry without having to rebuild in between. And as nice to have would be a few compartments to hold travel essentials like umbrella, passport, purse ... This backpack ticks all the (my) boxes. It is as easy and comfortable to roll as it is to carry. No rebuild required from carry to roll and back and it has enough compartments to hold all my essentials. The backpack comes with extra padded laptop bag and my laptop fits well in. There is plenty of space and handy storage compartments for all your bits and pieces when travelling. It fits in overhead lockers on an airplane but because I carry everything but the kitchen sink with me - it becomes to bulky and heavy to fit onto the overhead storage racks on a train - specially if you are not really tall enough to comfortably reach them anyway and the weight of the bag just makes you fall over :-). It has a net pocket / water bottle holder on the side which I use as umbrella storage. I haven't experienced the "noisy wheel issue" from a couple of other reviews. The noise level depends pretty much on the surface you are rolling it about .... The build of the bag is nice and solid, clean stitching. The telescopic arm has to levels, is easy to use and locks in place with release button for folding away. Cons from my side after 4 weeks of constant use - the velcro pads are of no use to me and the way I use my bag. But they are in places where when using the bag as backpack they rub against my skirt/trousers/jacket and catch and roughen the material, leaving unsightly and irreversible patches/marks. So I will try to remove the velcro patches from my bag. Other thing I've noticed is that one of the strap holder clips is not gripping as tight as the other and I end up having to adjust the strap frequently to not end up loop sided. Regardless of the cons, I would buy the backpack again.

I’ve had the bag now for 18 months with occasional use only. It’s ok, lightweight and of a good size. What lets it down is the flimsy construction of the handle. The handle has a push button used to retract and extend the handle. Inside the handle the pushbutton has plastic “wings” which push down on metal sticks to operate the release mechanism. The plastic is poor quality and broke quickly in mine. I took the handle apart and repaired the wings with some Pratley Putty but they have broken again. I have contacted the seller but they say as it’s over six months old I need to contact the manufacturer ... probably in China. So, best avoid the seller and the product I think. Edited ... An update. I contacted the manufacturer direct via their website. I got an email back within a day asking for photos of the problem. Turns out they have lifetime warranty on their bags. Just received a new bag in the post free of charge! Bit of a waste given it was just the handle that was broken but can’t fault their service. So upped from 1 star to 3.

Un sac parfait pour un usage professionnel, étanche et solide. Je l'ai utilisé comme sac principal "de clientèle" pendant 3 semaines de prospection commerciale en Guyane et Antilles, avec mes catalogues, ordinateur portable, et tous les accessoires (cartes de visites, clés USB, échantillons, papiers, portefeuille, insecticide, creme solaire, eau, chapeau etc) Il est imperméable aux pluies tropicales, et ce n'est pas peu dire, survit aux charges lourdes (10 - 15 kg ballotés de rdv en rdv), facilement lavable (posé dans la boue parfois). Très confortable sur le dos, on ne sent pas de barre ni de renforts. La canne en mode roulettes es de bonne facture, même si elle a un peu de jeu. Par contre, n'espérez pas rajouter une trousse de toilette conséquente pour un petit déplacement par exemple. Même la poche centrale est peu large (une petite bouteille d'eau est la limite extrême en largeur), ou alors on doit forcer sur les fermetures éclair. Donc a conseiller pour du ponctuel avec chemisier et sous vêtements de rechange, ou pour du long voyage avec un autre bagage pour les affaires personnelles. Le passage de roulette à sac a dis est super pratique et rapide. Si les roulettes sont propres on peut même garder les les bretelles et les roulettes ensemble (mais attention aux tâches en bas du dos.
