Model Aircraft Aerodynamics

I'd really recommend this book to anybody interested in model flight, and is perhaps looking at designing their own models or just trying to get a better understanding of what is happening whilst they're flying around.I'm an aeronautical engineer and tend to find 'full-size' aerodynamic theory to be irrelevant to the regime in which most model aircraft operate. This book is an excellent filler to this missing piece of information, dealing with subject such as the quirks of low Reynolds number flow and the near constant presence of laminar flow over the wing - which 'big' aerodynamics misses out on. As well as the theory, the author does an excellent job of providing real-world examples, which helps contextualise a lot of the more abstract information. There is also an excellent section at the back with lots of aerofoil information, co-ordinates etc.

Information inside this book is amazing, it is easy to understand and very well written. The book is ideal for a beginner providing to don't get too overwhelmed by some of the technical information. I've learnt a tremendous amount as a beginner. I am now more confident about making a model aircraft also buy the right model kit after read and studying the aerodynamic inside this book. Pictures, photos and diagrams are very clear and in colour but some are in black and white or gray and white. It is an excellent book👍 🛫.

This book met my expectations completely. Despite having worked in the aircraft industry many years ago, there was much I needed to learn about specific aspects of aircraft control and stability.It is a modern book with many new ideas.To get the best from the book you would need some knowledge of mathematics or physics. I suppose it would be about 'A' level standard. (It would be a good idea to know what a Reynold's number is for example.) It has been suggested as an introduction to a degree course in aeronautics.Even so, the basic priciples are explained clearly with good diagrams.I am pleased with my purchase.

I had and still have the first edition of the 70ies. I read it back and forth many times, it shaped my model building career (I became a designer). Just the best ever, now even better. For those who want to understand, without having to go through all the maths.

The content is good. Great in fact. The build quality of the book, however, is terrible. I had 3 pages fall out of mine just during regular use. My friend (who bought the book based on my recomendation) also had issues with his.

Each edition of this books get better. Very good explanations on all aspects of model aerodynamics, and fantastic diagrams in colour!Everyone should be able to understand the subject as it is very clearly explained in a way that is not dry and boring.If you have the earlier editions this on is worth getting too.

My son is very interested in model aircraft, he really enjoyed this book.

Complex subject very well presented. A few errors which proof reading should have corrected but not related to technical content. A must read book for anyone who wants to understand and get more from the hobby.

This is sort of a classic updated periodically. It has some math in it, but it is not overwhelming and if you skip those parts you won't be lost on the concepts, which are well explained within the scope of the book. It will not teach all there is to know about model aerodynamics.

Endlich ein Buch, das die physikalischen Grundlagen allgemeinverständlich und dennoch korrekt und im notwendigen Umfang wiedergibt. Absolute Empfehlung für alle, die wissen wollen, warum ihr Modell wirklich fliegt.

Excellent ouvrage, présente de façon claire didactique et très complète l'aérodynamique et la mécanique du vol. Le propos est illustré par des schémas très pédagogique. Cet ouvrage concerne aussi bien les modèles réduits que les avions en"vraie grandeur".

Por mi trabajo estoy en contacto con las tecnologías aeronáuticas, por lo que tengo ciertos conocimientos sobre el tema. Se trata de un libro para aeromodelismo, es cierto, pero el contenido es útil también para profesionales. De hecho su tratamiento intuitivo de los perfiles laminares es muy interesante. Muchas veces los contenidos mas interesantes vienen en libros que se dirigen al público en general. Muy recomendable
