First Thousand Words in English (Usborne First Thousand Words): 1

This was bought as part of a birthday present for a 4yr old Ukrainian girl, recently arrived as a refugee in the UK. She hardly has any English yet and my hope is that she might sit down with her mum and learn some new words. Her mum (who already has pretty good English) thought she'd also find it really helpful! The book is well set out with good drawings of different settings, and objects with words next to them. There are also yellow ducks hidden amongst the drawings on each page, for younger readers to find. I was impressed with the book, though I haven't heard yet how well it's gone down.

I have purchased several of these so my review is based upon not just the English one but also Arabic and Italian. These books are great for all ages wanting to learn a second language. Its all very simple, a word and a picture above with each page usually a different topic such as the home, school, work, hospital etc basically the words you would need for your day to day usage. Learning Arabic I have had Arabic teachers recommend these books to young students as a good teaching aid and I have found them useful as gifts to friends who are learning English. The one thing I should say and its probably more important for languages such as Arabic, the book contains the word in that language and then the picture not an English translation so for example if you are reading the Arabic version you will need to know the Arabic alphabet first. Anyway, regardless of what language you want to learn these books are the perfect little helper for any age and at such a reasonable price.

I grew up with the older version of this book, it provided hours of fun playing find the object with my parents and it is actually how I learnt the order of the alphabet after struggling with the way they taught it at school. This was bought for my young niece who is an able reader but is struggling a lot with comprehension- not understanding that the words she reads actually have meanings (a fairly common problem for children with autism). Hopefully it will help a little with her comprehension and also be a fun book for her to look at, read and play with other members of the family. I flicked through the book and was impressed with how they had maintained the original look and feel of the book but also brought it up to date with modern life. We were disappointed we could not find this modern version in hardback so it would last longer in a family with 4 kids under 6, but somehow the paperback version still feels fairly sturdy and well made- which was a nice surprise too.

My daughter is now 20 month and just , just started to talk. This book is a bit advanced for her . She can't concentrate on same page for so long. Therefore I'm thinking this book is perfectly age appropriate for 3+ . Or depending when your lill one start's to talk. I think this book is perfectly illustrated and looks like puzzle game. More than sure i will use it after , but for now I'll put it on the shelf to collect dust😅

Bought this book on recommendation of therapist who was helping my son develop his speech. Found out he is taking interest and trying to engage. Regarding the book Really Good quality paper, good pictures and illustrations, covers plenty topics such as At home The kitchen The garden The workshop The street The toy shop The park Animals Travel The country The farm The seaside At school The hospital The doctor The party The shop Food Me People Doing things opposite words Days Weather Sport and exercise Colours Numbers The fairground The circus A word builder for young ones. Could be used in early stages of learning to read. Could also be very helpful of English language learners.

Mom&son (23 months) review. This is a wonderful, useful, well designed book for toddlers/kids. Each double page spread has 2-4 scenes, each scene is different - kitchen, bedroom, bathroom - or, locations like farms - or, seasons & celebrations like Christmas. Much like the front of the book certain items are extracted from the scene and illustrated around the edge of the scene and clearly labelled - helping a toddler focus & learn. The scenes contain so many items that they can't all be illustrated which is fine because the illustrations are good and easy to see and makes you have to stay relatively engaged to step in and say what something is! My toddler loves exploring this book. A very practical adventure book for little'uns. Don't hesitate. Hope this helps?

Produto excelente; eu já o conhecia, sou professora de Inglês, e recomendo esse produto para crianças e adultos que queiram aprender vocabulário de uma forma lúdica. Um ex-aluno quis comprar meu dicionário, e, eu o vendi para ele. Comprei um outro para mim, e também tenho o mesmo dicionário em Francês, ainda não falo fluentemente, mas tenho o dicionário pq ele é bom.
