Kingdom Wooden Chess Set - Hand Crafted 31 x 31 Centimeter

I'm giving this chess set the full stars because I was very impressed by the antique style of this board. The chess pieces and the board itself was shiny. Inside was very posh and it looks very expensive. This chess board is for my partner's 10 year old nephew. It's his birthday very soon and he loves chess. He is going to love this chess set. It was also a very quick delivery. I would recommend this to anyone considering to by a chess set.

Pieces looks great and the books looks good. The case can be better, it looked cheap but once you open the box everything looks like hand made and good looking

I don't normally leave reviews but this product is that bad... Quality is extremely poor. I suppose it's to be expected for the price, but the point is it shouldn't even be sold.

Sorry, just not impressed with the set overall. Chess board actually looks okay. There is a minor tooling blip on the inside of my particular box, possibly where there has been a knot in the wood or similar. Hinge seems to be okay as does the hasp. The insert (holding the chess pieces) is a thinly moulded piece of plastic with a coating which looks like felt from a distance – I cannot imagine this to last beyond a few years, my expectation was for this to be made from sponge-like material. The chess pieces themselves are very light in weight, once holding them in your hand they have very little presence about them – my expectation was that they would have a little more weight. The pieces are factory machined, my ones had some splinters of wood remaining where this operation was not 100% completed and deburred/filled down – I’m unsure how this could have been passed at quality control stage. The cross on the King is obviously stuck on after turning & machining, however I would have expected this to be vertical not 10 degrees out. Two of the pawns had a slight scratch in them. There is no grain to the chess pieces. The finish to the outside of the pieces is okay but nothing exciting. I know the value of things, I know how production lines work and I also appreciate that manufacturers need to make a living too. Perhaps I am just expecting too much. I’m now going to a well known auction site to have a look for an old chess set, which I know will be made from a weighty wood, where the pieces will feel like they have more of a presence and perhaps even lacquered varnished thus giving a good feel in the hand.

Really nicely made chess set. Pieces are a good size and it's perfect for taking on holiday.
