Worth buying if you are a diehard DC fan
Let me start by saying that I am myself a diehard DC fan. Born in 1973 I grew up with the Superfriends and then later The Justice League vs. The Legion of Doom. The Marvel characters weren't the ones on Saturday morning cartoons. Not until much later. I like Marvel as well, but this is not a review on them. I like this movie Black Adam. I gave it four stars because it is somewhat predictable. Even more so than previous DC movies. Which is really saying something. Other than that, I thought the movie was good and I'm not sorry I bought it. In fact, I'm going to watch it again tonight and see what I might have missed the first time. I like the special effects and the fight scenes. The characters are ok. They're basically DC versions of Marvel characters really. Except for Hawkman. Hawkman was a very early entry into the 70's Justice League of America cartoons. And speaking of Hawkman, in my opinion he was the best superhero in this movie, as far as your basic superheroes go. I would like to see him in his own movie. Skip all the early stuff though, and just have a movie packed full of Hawkman action. Tell us in Hawkman 2 how he got that way. Black Adam is an awesome antihero. His powers are seemingly unbeatable, and I like that he can get really angry and literally explode :). I can relate to that. I do like the movie, but something felt off. The Rock didn't seem to be on top of his game. Not that he was ever the world's best actor to begin with, but I do like his movies. Something just didn't seem right though. Kind of like he had the flu during filming, and they were trying to hide it. His acting was tired. Like he was over the whole thing already and would have preferred to go wrestling. I don't know, maybe it's just me. These are only my personal opinions ladies and gentlemen. As I stated it is indeed worth buying and watching. I would recommend it. I'm okay to slide this DVD in along with my DC movie collection. I don't remember Black Adam for some reason. I'm not sure if he was around in the 70's and early 80's. I remember Shazaam, but he was a good guy in a red suit. I kinda got away from comics and cartoons by the mid 80's so I'm sure I missed a lot of newer heroes. Anyway, that's all folks,

I like the movie but I'm glad it bombed
Yeah that's quite a title for you. Let's be fair about this I've watched this film in theaters and I came out of it enjoying it but knowing Dwayne Johnson and hearing everything that he wanted to do made me less excited for anything he had planned for with DC which is the reason why I am very pleased the fact that it bombed but I do think it's over hated. The film is a very fun ride and it's character surrounding it is actually on point. Sure this complained about the bill and being half-assed but when you have characters surrounding it it's not completely bad individual effects we're actually pretty damn good. If there's one other thing I can definitely say I didn't like is the complete ignoring of Shazam AKA captain Marvel. For Goodwill I've made various considerations on whether I wanted to get this on Blu-ray but with the right price and willingness I felt that it was good enough to own. If anything I'm thankful.

A very good film that introduces a new anti-hero to the DCU Film universe.
Getting caught in the DC crossfire and fight over the future of their franchise characters left "Black Adam" kind of in the lurch; while it did well at the box office, it didn't do as well as was expected. As a result, it's unlikely we'll see a sequel (and we know that, no matter what, Henry Cavill won't be in one--that time has passed unfortunately. Hate "Man of Steel" or love it, Cavill was perfectly cast in the films he made. It's a pity that James Gunn just can't see past his own plans to include Cavill in a wrap up for the saga started by Zach Snyder). That's too bad because The Rock is well cast as the title character and bringing in second string DC characters that haven't had a movie was a smart idea allowing them to develop some of these secondary characters as well. Black Adam has the powers of Shazam from the same mystic source. When he is awakened after being buried alive by archeologists looking for the crown of Sabbac, he awakens to a world he doesn't recognize or understand. He does, however, understand bad guys and proceeds to womp a group of them trying to kill the archeologist how has been trying to discover the final hiding place of the crown. The Justice Society led by Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone is called in by Amanda Waller to prevent Black Adam from doing more damage to the ancient city of Kahndaq. The film is a lot of fun. Is it earthshattering entertainment that will change your worldview? Nope. It is nice, however, to see another culture and the hero that protected them examined for a change. Having seen Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate (who is like Marvel's Doctor Strange a little bit or rather the other way around since Fate's character existed in the late 40's) and Aldis Hodge as Hawkman was a lot of fun; these two less well-known characters often get overlooked (unless you're following a series like "Titans" or "Legends of Tomorrow" most recently). It was fun seeing some characters other than the main DCU characters of The Flash, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman get screen time. The 4K is exceptional. You can see all the money on the screen. It's a top notch transfer and truly brings the film to life on the home screen. The same with the blu-ray (included with the 4K) which may be a notch below the 4K but has some good qualities as well. The 7.1 Atmos mix is very active (as is to be expected) and dialogue is clear. English subtitles are provided. The special features are limited to the Blu-ray with "The History of Black Adam", "Who Is The Justice Society?", "Black Adam: A New Type of Action Hero", "Costumes Make The Hero" are among the excellent featurettes included. I haven't been able to dig into all of the special features as of yet but they are all, so far, very very good. "Black Adam" promised a new anti-hero to the DCU and The Rock is perfectly cast. My only complaint is that the script could and should have done a bit more character development for the secondary super heroes that end up fighting and then, eventually, banding together with Black Adam.
