Hasegawa 1:48 Scale Voyager Unmanned Space Probe Model Kit

This superbly engineered and highly accurate model kit of the famous Voyager Space Probe(s) comes at a timely point in space exploration history. As the real space probes, Voyagers' 1 and 2, hurtle out of our Solar System into interstellar space the Hasegawa kit gives the modeller an oppurtunity to appreciate the momentous feat that the scientists and engineers at NASA have accomplished by creating a miniature replica that is both challenging and beautiful. The kit comes well packed in sealed plastic bags that provide adequate protection for many of the small, thin and delicate parts that make up the bulk of this kit. Also if any of the parts come loose in transit then they are at least contained in the bags rather than bouncing round inside the box. The parts come in three plastic layers; two black and one white. All are covieniently labelled and numbered for ease of identification and the instructions are detailed, well thought out and easy to follow. The parts are small and very thin but thanks to Hasegawas excellent craftsmanship most of the elements fit together superbly. Some of the parts can be a bit tight in initial test fitting but with a bit of bevelling the holes can be widened slightly to allow ease of construction. The model itself really has only three colours, black, white and silver with copper and sandy yellow added for detail to some parts of the dish antenna and camera array. The only disappointing thing about this otherwise superior kit are the two long antenna that extend from the main body. They are, by necessity made of solid plastic whereas the real Voyager antenna are long hollow metal frameworks. A company called LVM have created metal, photo etched parts specifically for this kit that can be substituted and gives the finished model the authenticity it deserves. With so many space themed model kits inspired by science fiction movies and TV currently flooding the market it is a relief to have an intelligent, fact based kit that nonetheless stirs the imagination and makes you feel pride in humanities scientific achievements.

This is a great kit if not one of the better ones of the Voyager probe. Recommend for those with some previous modelling experience as there are some quite fiddly parts. Instructions in Chinese but to be quite honest the picture explanation is very good along with the painting recommendations. Really enjoyed this model and have completed it using just the odd hour or so during a week when there wasn’t much else to do or see. Been a nice break away from normal chores getting back into some modelling that I really love but haven’t been putting enough time aside to do of late.

It had been a long time since I made a model kit. This was a challenging re-introduction for me, very intricate with delicate parts. The end result was just what I wanted though. Nice kit with well formed components.

As the title says this is the first kit I have bought from Hasegawa. Although I have made numerous kits from all and sundry, some being very involved. This seems a breath of fresh air, in cost and in simplicity of build compared to the quality of the castings. I wasn't aware there was a photo etch option until reading the reviews here. I will be parking it in the stash at least until I've tried to get a set myself. But well worth the money, looking forward to the build.

Big regret getting this. Super-super fragile, that includes storage, gentle door breeze will break it. Glue not provided but absolutely needed for repairs and just to put it together as most parts do not stay together. Instructions are not good. No spare parts.

This is my 3rd model kit (previously Warhammer and a revel kit) this is is much higher in quality. It really helps that most the parts are already moulded in the main colour (black or white) with only simple details needing to be added. This was a very fun to build and paint for me, all the parts where very precise and fit together very nicely. The plastic smells a bit when first opene but soon goes away. Deffiently recommend for people who are still getting used to model making
