No Clean HDMI output
Its a great camera, if you just want to point and shoot! I've bought this camera initially to livestream with it but it doesn't have a clean HDMI output meaning that whatever appears on the camera screen it also shows up on stream & that was the main reason that made me return it otherwise like I've mentioned it's a great camera!

Really good video quality in a small and affordable package
I own three now. For me they do everything a 4k video camera needs to do, and they don't cost a fortune. Separate audio in and out is the key feature for me. Using wired and wireless mics is much better than the on board mics. They are so compact, I keep all three in a Stanleys screw holding box!

Excellent quality but linited 4k options
Camera can record brilliantly in 4k and the footage it creates is amazing. However, you should be aware that it will only record 4k in either 25fps (default) or 24fps. Whilst that may be perfectly ok for most folks, it can lead to stuttering if the camera is panned too fast. Even though camera is based on 8 years old technology now, you should still be aware of this and this is not very well called out in the description. So I am knocking a mark off for that. Further research shows that to get 4k with more options such as 60fps requires a much more expensive device. Other than that disappointment, it has great zoom and build quality is very nice.

funny movements
Every time when you press the Record button, the camera adjusts the position of an object moving it around for about 3 seconds before it stops. I use a good tripod, so it is purely the camera effect, which I do not know how to stop.

Domestic camera with pro video
This camera does exactly what it says on the tin and works well providing U3 cards are used. Semi-pro equipment. It is fairly solid for a plastic body, however it is a domestic camera with professional video capabilities. No line input but a -40db pad in the stereo microphone input soon sorts this out.

Was great. Until TWO failed in the same way.
Great camcorder. Really nice quality of the video. Does not oversaturate as Sony products do. BUT, It's delicate. Really delicate. Can't toss it around as I did with my previous model - Panasonic SD90 which is a dust-proof, water-proof, death-proof TANK. IMPORTANT - The 980 feels plasticky in hand, and if you squeeze it harder, your in-camera microphone will pick up the cracks! Yes! You will hear plastic camera noises on your videos! Need external mic definitely. Other than that the video quality is top notch. UPDATE - Two of 980s failed in the same way - Image Stabilization stopped working and the cameras constantly lose focus, all on their own. I will highly NOT recommend this camera lineup (870 / 980 / 990 ) as theyre all the same on the inside. Get the newer, HC VX1 with completely new specs and IS system.

Panasonic HC-VX980EB-K 4K Camcorder
This 4K video camera https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01AAGIR8A/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0 offers amazing quality. Still getting to grips with its multi functions, but I bought it mainly for the quality and for the time lapse facility which works well. Surprised that the SD card socket is on the base, so this would mean removing camera from the tripod to change... will update this review once I've more experience, but so far, am very pleased though the cost was a definite consideration !

Poor for a relatively high end prosumer device
Somewhat disappointing that for the money I paid it doesn’t offer 30\60fps, and only 25/50fps. This means footage tends to be jerky on monitors running at 60hz. Shame on Panasonic for omitting this.
