Really good valuee for money and works really well
This a great product!!!!It worked straight out of the box. My laptop is a Lenovo G50-80 with windows 10, it's built DVD RW. is broken this is a cheap and far superior replacement. It will work on usb 2.0 as well. It works perfectly with an extension cable too. They have fitted the usb cable in the unit making it portable. This lead however is woefully short, if you're laptop is not on a desk so you might think about getting an extension cable. It is very fast, quiet and reliable. It would have been better if they had coloured the open close button because if difficult to see when its not really bright in your room. It's a great bit of kit for the money. It just works really well without any fuss. The only thing is the manual (actually a bit of paper) is ridicules and this is a bit disconcerting if your new to using a pc. There are far too many pc gadgets and optional extra's out there with the same issue but there are plenty of videos and examples online to help you out. Amazon should be doing more to encourage the sellers to come up with decent documentation. In fact there is more info on this page than the leaflet you get. This aside it is plug and play so you shouldn't have a problem. definitely a great buy.

works out of the box
When my laptop DVD player stopped working properly I was concerned that it would be expensive to remedy the problem. However I was pleasantly surprised (and, yes, suspicious) to find out how cheap a USB drive would be. I chose this one because it's USB3 and hence slightly faster in transfer rate than others of a similar price. It's a relatively discrete, attractive and solid plastic box with a large enough 'eject' button to find easily (I have found some to be a bit fiddly). I haven't tried the write or re-write functions yet but the drive played as soon as Windows 10 had found it and works well. Some reviewers have complained about the length of the built-in USB cable (you'll have about 20cm of useable cable length) but I think it's that length so it can be stored in the recess in the bottom of the drive. If you need a longer cable order an extension cable when you order the drive - it looks like most drives of this type have a short cable.I'm very pleased with this bit of kit.

Good gadget with minor compatibility issue
Nowadays laptops do not provide an optical drive so bought this DVD reader/writer to compensate for the missing component. The Good:- Light and compact, good for both home-use and portable-use outside.- Works with Windows 10, which is the key factor that I chose this drive.- Works out-of-the-box, just plug the USB cable and ready for use, no extra driver/software installation is required. The Bad:- The materials (the plastic case and laser reader) do not feel strongly build and durable enough for sustainable use.- Works with all USB 2.0 and some of the USB 3.0 ports, but NOT all of them – feels like there are some compatibility issues with the drive.- For some reasons it crashes with other USB peripherals, I have to unplug all other USB connections and connect only this drive to make it worked.- The integrated USB cable is short which makes the drive very inconvenient to move around.Bottom Line:It does what it needs to – and for this price it gives you a not-so-good-not-so-bad quality as you would expect.

Good, Reaible and Easy to use Portable External Drive
I have used this Portable External Drive a few times now to copy files from my pc on to CD-R discs. It is very easy to use and so far seems very reliable. For the money I paid, it seems very good value. I would recommend.

Suprisingly good
There are a few reviews on here from people that got this for free, to be clear I bought this out of my own money after reading the reviews. When it first arrived I got a little worried - the box it came in had another brand name on and the instructions were very badly translated into English. Still I gave it a try and despite my initial scepticism I can't fault it. I've used it for nearly a month now, I've used it to play CDs, rip CDs and watch a few DVDs, and it's done everything I asked of it.The instructions might be gibberish, but you don't really need them, you plug the drive in using the attached USB 3.0 cable (it clips securely to the base and doesn't fall out) and that's it, it shows up ready to go.When reading a CD or DVD it’s pretty quiet and free of vibration and doesn't get hot. When ripping a CD it is as loud as any other drive but that's no problem, I haven't used it to write to any CDs or DVDs as I don't really need to do this.I have however only used this on a USB 3.0 port and not a USB 2.0 port, as USB 3.0 can supply about 50% more power than USB 2.0, so I would expect this to struggle to rip on a USB 2.0 port.I bought this to act as a portable drive for my notebook PC, and to install disk based software, and it meets all my expectations. It's slim enough to fit in the sleave for my notebook but has all the performance of a built in drive. This drive strikes the right balance between cost and function so I am more than pleased with it - I would be perfectly happy to use one of these as my primary disk drive for my PC and thoroughly recommend this product.

junk stay away
Well that was a complete waste of money, well you know the saying you get what you pay for.And this is a cheap piece of junk, i tried backing up one of my DVD movies, i have a crappy old asus external dvd writer it does the job in 15 mins,Well after 30 mins plugged into a USB 3 port it was at 7%.Also bought the LG slim portable dvd writer that only takes 45 mins for a dvd backup.WHEN will i learn never buy cheap junk again from LG or elsewhere. If you have Windows 10 STAY away from this, the LG won't even install the software on DVD it says Windows 10 is supported in the guide and on LG's WEB site BUT if you look at the ini files in on the DVD Well guess what Win2000 no Win 8 or 10Normally this is not a problem but seems LG and the no name pop-up mobile DVD writer is just a hoax, i can't understand why it gets so nice reviews in here unless the authors get payed to write a lie, does it pay well?
