Beautiful book
The quilts are beautifully photographed. Nice enough to leave on a coffee table.

Great Diversity w/ Sleek, True Modern Design
I love this book. It's fabulous for many reasons. Here's just a few:1. Inspiration - The designs in the book are pretty simple and straightforward. That's not to mean it's a book for beginners (there are some fairly complex quilts in here) but there's a lot of room to take liberties and be creative.2. Targeted for multiple skills levels - The instructions are incredibly well written and easy to follow. Some quilts are great for beginners and others require more advanced quilting skill. I like books like this because they always stay relevant.3. Focus on quilting, not piecing. - Each pattern comes with two variations for quilting and there is a section devoted to quilting on a home machine. I really appreciate this because a lot of quilting books focus only on the piecing but this book gives great guidance and ideas for the actual quilting.4. It's a beautiful book - Even when you're not using it to quilt, this book makes a gorgeous coffee table book.Last weekend I made the Mosaic pattern from the book. This quilt is a 54'' x 60'' and it was the perfect weekend project. Cutting and piecing only took around 4 hours and I'm a fairly new quilter. The end product was great.

Intriguing modern patterns
This book does a great job of offering modern patterns with well-written piecing instructions and quilting suggestions.

Too much detail for kindle
I’m disappointed that the instructions are so detailed that using an electronic version of this book is not user friendly. If I choose a paper version I’m sure I’d appreciate the book more. The instructions are too detailed and so I’d use the paper book version to check off after I completed each step. The quilt pattern are attractive for a beginner.

Simply Elegant
Finished a quilt yesterday using this book. Quilters need not be limited to using only solid colors for the quilts. Coordinated prints are an excellent alternative. My quilt was constructed entirely of red, black, and grey prints and I absolutely love the results. The pattern I used is "Hot Spot". My husband immediately commented on the illusion of movement created by offsetting the strips by 5 degrees--the most difficult aspect of construction, using this design. I quilted it on my Viking machine (not a long or mid-arm) with excellent results. I plan to use batiks for my next quilt from this book. The yardage recommendations are very useful and accurate. I highly recommend this book for all levels of quilters.

Immediate Inspiration
I preordered this book, and was SO excited when Amazon sent it to me earlier than I expected! I spent that first evening poring over every quilt, every dynamic, and every detail.I was working on a quilt at the time, with a specific quilting design in mind, but after reading about one of her quilts, I changed my mind and quilted it differently...and I LOVE IT!!!This book is great for beginners and experienced quilters around the world. I can only imagine how my own quilting and quilt style will improve now that I have this book. And I'm not really one to buy a lot of quilt books! I will definitely recommend it to all my quilting friends. :)Thank you, Alissa, for inspiring me and encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone and create something beautiful that I love!

nothing new
This is not a bad book, but it's a disappointment. There are 20 quilts, all pretty much like the one on the cover. There are detailed instructions about cutting and layout, which really aren't necessary since the designs are pretty straight forward. I was hoping for more insights into color, creativity, process and such rather than a basic "cookbook." Because these quilts have so much plain fabric, the quilting is a big part of the piece. The author claims to have done all of these on her home machine, and while I'm not doubting her, I do know from my own experience quilting many quilts on my home machine that I couldn't get the results she does. Yet she gives no instruction or tips about quilting large quilts or designs on a home machine. It wasn't worth the price of the book for me.

Inspiring book modern and clean but fun too.
I am really enjoying this book. The younger people I know would rather have a more modern cleaner look (not so busy) in a quilt. I want to make them one they will use and not tuck away because it doesn't go with what they like. This book gets the creative juices going for me. I try to keep the person I am making a quilt for in mind. Not necessarily what I like.

Superb book
My favourite quilting book: gorgeous contemporary designs, and fantastic instructions. If you have a modern aesthetic of simple, clean lines, you will love the patterns.

FOR WHOM IS THE BOOK?A beginner, who knows how to handle fabrics, square them up for cutting, will receive all information necessary to make a quilt at home. The book is particularly useful, if you're still unsure how to work with solids only, as most quilts showcase a tiny bit of patterned fabrics or none at all. If you've heard of the Modern Quilt Guild, but don't know what it's about, "Modern Minimal" is a great introduction to this aesthetic.THE SECTIONS:IntroductionWhite Negative Space: Drip, Oddballs, Broken Stripes, Cell Service.Colorful Negative Space: Art Deco, Red Square, Pick Up Sticks, Basket Weave.Improvisational Piecing: Cobblestones, Mosaic, Cluster, Empty Shelves.Monochromatic Quilts: Mustard, Forest Curve, Hot Spot, Choppy Waters.Baby Quilts: Don't Fence Me In, Boxes, Building Blocks, Sherbet. How to make a quiltTHE PATTERNS:- They are modern. They are minimal. Buy the book, if this is your style.- Apart from the four baby quilts, all quilts are in the size range lap-twin-queen.- They follow the same, clear structure: What you need, Cutting, Assembling the quilt top, Making the quilt back, and Quilting options (option 1 and 2).- The diagrammes for cutting and assembling will rock your socks off, that's how good they are.- Working with modern patterns often requires stepping outside of traditional blocks; the book teaches you how to tackle the vast fields of negative space among others. Use these skills to draft your own patterns (I haven't found a book quite like this, will therefore soak up all techniques taught here)!STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:- The pages are easy to read; not too crammed, nice photography, great layout/typography choices.- A tiny minus for never showing a quilt back, but only describing it verbally in a few sentences.- The introduction contains great tips, especially the ones on how to work with solids.- How to make a quilt contains the best description I've seen so far of how to make a quilt sandwich. To get even more information, a video tutorial such as a Craftsy class is a good idea to watch.- A huge smile for all the quilting options, as the large pieces are a challenge to quilt nicely. There are many quilts in "Modern Minimal" that I want to make. Some colours aren't my favourites, but it's easy enough to switch them out (you don't buy the exact same fabrics for traditional quilts either). I might also do the reverse - put patterned fabrics where solids are now and vice versa - just to increase the options and learn more through experimentation. This is a keeper in my bookshelf!

Lovely adult quilts
The adult quilts were lovely. I haven't actually tried making one yet, but the instructions seem quite straight forward. I was a little disappointed by the baby quilts.
