12-56 - Why not?
Magnificent on any Tele. Make sure you turn your truss rod clockwise 1/6 of a turn - 60 degrees - (looking from the headstock to the bridge) The sustain is hilarious - Changed my game to be honest. I picked up a Fender Performer with 9's today - it was like playing with elastic bands. You need these strings in your life - if even for one guitar. Its a eye opener.

I don't know how SRV does it!
Most of these reviews are for other guages, so to be clear I'm writing about the 12 to 56 nickel wound set. Moving from 11s (still ernies) there is a noticeable difference in tone. There is much more bottom end. This could mean that for a Les Paul they might be too muddy sounding, but for my strat they sound very nice; powerful and warm. This will be in part due to the fact that I have tuned down half a step from standard to make bends easier. As for bends, unless you have very strong hands you will struggle. I bend a lot and am finding the transition difficult. This is obviously not the strings fault, to be clear, but my own for using such heavy strings. However, the gain in tone makes the change worth it, now to wait for my hands to strengthen. In short, these are great strings, though not for everyone. I suspect that some of the reviews claiming broken strings are not for this set (as they are so heavy) or faults of the guitars bridge or nut. Oh, also make sure you have to ability to cut new nut slots or get someone else to do it for you, as these strings are thicker than normal they won't fit in a nut cut for 10s.

BE CAREFUL WITH CHOOSING THICK GAUGE STRINGS
Good things: these are amazing quality, absolute steal. New strings sound amazing as always Bad/important things: do your research - do thicker gauge strings work with your guitar? Mine has a tremolo bridge with 3 springs, and tuned to E standard, the bridge is floating when it should be flush. Also you will have to file your nut - are you sure you want to do this, especially if you only have one guitar like me? Just a warning, especially for "heavier gauge strings for heavier songs", which might not be true, perhaps some 10s would suffice. Might use these strings as a light set for when I get a 7 string guitar...

Consider finding a pack with a Wound 3rd string
So far so good, even if they are now just starting to show some corrosion after 5 days (I barely sweat). I've used D'addario the most over the past 10 years or so but fancied a change after buying a new guitar that has a longer scale length at 26.5". I tune to Drop A (B standard, with a dropped low string). For most this might be a little loose but I have a soft-ish touch. The only problem I have with this set is the plain 'G' or 3rd string and that is why I gave them 4 stars. It sounds quite bad and has a lot of inharmonicity (I think that's the word, where the harmonics just sound bad/out of tune. Hard to explain. Like when you play really high up on low strings and it sounds like a dull piano). On my standard scale guitars at the same tuning I use the D'addario Light Baritone set that have a wound 3rd, which sounds great. So I will pick up a single wound 3rd string for now but after this I might pick up a pack of GHS Boomers DYM 13-56 or the Dunlop set of the same gauge (13-56 with wound 3rd). Great for the price, bright, punchy sound, but this set desperately needs a wound 3rd and I'm a little surprised how fast they're corroding, even if it is only slightly.

Excellent’
Bought these Ernie Ball’s to try a different string gauge and to down tune for playing Doom Metal. I’ve had EB strings in the past and always liked their durability, ease of use and general flexibility. These burly slinky’s are superb. Very impressed with them. They hold their tune and can take a bit of abuse with string bends etc. So far so good, very pleased with and happy with the great price. Nice one!

Try them on your archtop and/or resonator guitar.
I have a Framus archtop guitar with a Schaller floating pickup that doesn't have individually adjustable pole pieces. Some folks have a problem with a loud B string. With this set-up, I don't. These are the right strings. My Gretsch reso (standard tuning, played like a regular guitar) usually has PB 13-56 strings on it but since there was a set of these Not Evens lying around I gave them a try. Result! These nickel-plated electric guitar strings work a treat on the acoustic reso. With fingerpicks it's a big, clear sound and a pleasure to play.
