Catan Scenarios: The Helpers Extension Board Game Ages 12 plus 3-4 Players

Great little addition to base game, really fun additional dynamic which speeds up the game.

This item was bought as a birthday present for my 13 yr old grandson. He loves it!

Adds little fun chaos to the game

I'd avoid if possible, the original ones are far better to play with. These are a bit larger, but are quite dark and the text is black on a dark background so much more difficult to read. Rather than the original ones which are black text on a yellow background. Their are an extra 2 helpers with new abilities, the other 10 are the same with a couple having slightly different wordings which affect how they are used. However most have new names, but some of the old helpers names continue to be used. but for different abilities which is very confusing. The alternate rules are bad, and best avoided. Amazon took months to deliver these with delivery dates continually being put back, while a friend who ordered from one of the alternate suppliers listed got his within a week.

I personally love this expansion. I'm a pretty big Catan fan and love playing the game and extra scenarios with my friends. However, some of the other scenarios can be a bit much for newer players. I think this scenario is PERFECT for those wanting to add more to the Catan experience. It adds one new mechanic, the helpers, which can all do different things. The scenario cards explain exactly what each one does, and I felt the instructions explained the rules surrounding them well. I love that this can be added to any Catan experience whether it's the base game to warm newer players to new mechanics, or you can throw them into a game using multiple expansions and different scenarios. Great for what it is, although, helper number 6 (Diara) is clearly more powerful than most of the others.

Adds more tactical planning and time consumption to the standard game. Makes it more fun and interesting.

Bought as a gift to go with some catan games for a teen boy, he was stoked!

Some of the cards are over powered but it helps that, after you use them, they get cycled back into the deck overall add something new and fun to play around with
