Elysium [Blu-ray] [2013] [Region Free]

Unlike many people I had not seen any trailers for this film, so I watched it from the point of view that it was just another Sci-Fi film. As usual with so many films these days the politics within the storyline are simplistic and could be summed up as Rich = evil, Poor = good. The front story is about a poor boy coming out good for his beloved Frey and her daughter, so becoming a hero in the end. As far as I was concerned those were the weak elements of the film. The strong elements were the acting, musical score and the photography / special CGI effect. CGI can make or break a Sci-Fi film (or any other for that matter)and the art workers deserve a medal (as is so often the case). The amount of work that has gone into creating these special effects is incredible and these are explained on the added features on the Blu-ray disc (well worth watching for a change). The musical score is also first class and would be worth buying as a film soundtrack. The action scenes are well performed and realistic, so no complaints there either. There is also a really nice edge to the difference between the filming techniques on Earth and the mainly CGI space scenes. There has been a lot of thought put into these areas and they work very well indeed.Some people have been disappointed by this film but I wasn't one of them. Indeed I will be watching it again in the near future. For me Sci-Fi films are just an entertaining story full of great CGI artistic content. As a scientist I accept that the science is usually disregarded in favour of exciting special effects, so I do not concern myself with them. What I want from a film is entertainment and this film provided it for me. If you want to watch a deep meaning film that will make you want to consider deep political or theological ideas then maybe you need to watch another type of film. If you want a reasonable storyline, action scenes and great special effects then this film will fit the bill. Overall I have rated it 5-stars because it ticks all the boxes that I have when watching a film of FICTION. It does not demand much of your brain and it is highly watchable and entertaining. It has a lot going for it and I am glad that I have it in my large film collection. At the end of the day it is all a matter of taste. I liked it and I would recommend it to anyone who likes this style of film.

The best sci-fi movie I've seen for a while, it's grand, epic, exciting & has a social conscience too. Highly recommended.

I loved this film when I first saw it, for the best experience you should have a home cinema system or at least a 5.1 headset, I have both. It's basically an action film with a videogame feel to it, that's why a lot of people don't like it because you're non gamers. Matt Damon becomes a badass not far into the film after a work related accident, in this post apocalyptic world he lives in. When he realises he has a few days left to live, he wants to go to Elysium to heal himself, a planet way above Earth for the super rich. Along the way, the plot then changes into him trying to cure his childhood friends child on Elysium too, getting into clashes along the way with one of their security forces made up of exiled former agents. There's a bunch of action sequences and fight scenes, as the plot blasts along at a fast rate. I won't say any more, but the film was a blast to watch, the FIRST time round. On subsequent viewings, it becomes tiresome and a little cliched, but the first viewing is excellent. I do recommend this, specifically on Bluray where it's mastered in 4K for the best picture quality. I enjoyed it anyway, don't understand the hate for it.

It’s largely enjoyable, but not without flaws.By 2154, Earth is pretty much ruined. The wealthy and powerful have fled to a massive, gleaming space habitat called Elysium where they live as citizens in complete luxury while everyone else left behind lives in the remains, whilst some try to escape from Earth to enter the restricted Elysium any way they can. Can one man, through chance, upend the system and bring change?There’s little subtlety in the concept, and Director Neil Blomkamp (as in all his films) favours the heavy handed, blunt hammer approach to the ideas and themes brought about by the concept. It’s also married to a script and tone that veers around a lot, as if the cast think they’re each in a slightly different version of the same film. As the hero, Matt Damon is.......Matt Damon, while Jodie Foster takes a daytime soap opera approach to her performance as Elysium’s defender, and I still have no idea what film Sharlto Copley thinks he’s in.But it’s not a total loss, thanks to some truly impressive visuals and production design for both the future Earth and the Elysium station itself. And for all the faults of the script and performances, in a way, it’s complete lack of nuance makes it genuinely enjoyable eye candy as it ungracefully lumbers along to the finale.Extras are fine, with an OK set of featurettes covering aspects of the film’s production design and visualisations of the future.

Über den Film selber muss man nichts mehr sagen, die 4K-umsetzung verbessert ihn aber eindeutig in visueller und optischer Hinsicht: Gestochen scharfes Bild bis ins kleinste Detail und jede Falte, der Ton kommt glaklar aus den Boxen. Absolute Kaufempfehlung!

En primer lugar, como pone en mi titular, aclarar, cómo han hecho otros usuarios, que ésta copia en blu-ray de "Elysium" en su edición italiana, incluye entre otros idiomas, castellano de España. Hecho eso, decir que a mí la película no me gustó nada cuando la vi en el cine, pero a mi hermano sí y ha sido un regalo para él. A mi me pareció agobiante, gris y pesimista. Eso sí, visualmente es perfecta, la imagen tiene una definición brutal y el sonido no se queda atrás. Gustará a los amantes de la ciencia ficción post-apocalíptica en general (si aceptan la propuesta) y de "District Nine" en particular (porque comparte muchos cosas a nivel formal). Por cierto, no suelo decirlo, pero el servicio de Amazon de 10. Perfecto en todos los sentidos, cómo siempre.

Interesting film,dvd works well.Would recommend it to someone who likes sci-fi,distopyian movies with lots of violence.
