Has its limitations, but I love it-Even far 18 months
I purchased this a few days ago and as always with amazon I was impressed at how quickly it arrived considering P&P was free. It look and feels like a serious bit of kit, and looks a lot more expensive than it is. As stated in the title of this review it does have its limitations as others have mentioned it wont do iTTL but this doesn't bother me, what it does do it does very well for the money. It works both on camera and off camera, it comes with a little stand for mounting it to a tripod in the box, the range of power is more than adequate for me as an amateur photographer and I have to say I am seriously very glad I bought it. So why only four stars??? It clearly states that it is for ALL Sony cameras and it isn't. It works with my Sony DSC-R1 which has a standard hot shoe mount identical to most Canon's and Nikon's but does not fit my Alpha A300 ( and I believe all Alpha models have the same hot shoe ) straight out of the box (No adapter is included). This isn't a major concern however as I purchased a Pixel hot shoe adapter for my Alpha on here for 10.00 which brings my total cost to £47 ( A steal compared to Sony's own speed-light costing 265.00) I just wish it explained this in the product description as I would have ordered it at the same time, and wouldn't be sitting here waiting for the adapter to arrive so I can use it on camera (it still works off camera) I am going to buy another couple of these as fill in flashes with a couple of cheap light stands. Great Product, Great Price, just wish the description had been more accurate *****UPDATE****** I recently got rid of all my sony and nikon cameras and purchased the D7100 Nikon and this flash still works perfectly. It works much better with the Nikon range as it requires no adapter like the Sony's do, however it did work as stated above with both my A300 and my A77. However it always felt a little floppy on the adapter. As with all my previous DSLR's the flash does NOT support TTL or iTTL but does work in manual mode ( For Nikon users: set your mode dial to S for shutter priority set to your cameras sync speed (1/250 for the D7100) with the jog wheel, turn on the flash and set it to Manual using the buttons on the back of the flash. You can then fire the flash when you press your cameras shutter button. If the flash is too heavy try adjusting the flash head to bounce the flash, and use the + & - buttons to increase or decrease the power of the flash's output) I have now had this item for nearly 18 months and have used it on both the nikon and sony platforms and this flash still works perfectly (with a set of rechargeable duracells I bought from amazon too) never once has this flash let me down. At the £35 price tag I paid for it I think this is truly remarkable and makes the flash not only a must have but also a no brainer. It really is a purchase every photographer should make even if it's just to keep as a back up. I mean honestly you can't even buy a decent polarising filter for £35 these days. I've been meaning to buy more of these but as this one has served me so well I haven't needed to. I fully intend to get a couple more of these though as in slave mode they work absolutely faultlessly as off camera flash's.

A bargain and works a treat with my Fuji HS30 bridge camera
Works a treat with my Fuji HS30 bridge camera. The gun has a Guide Number of 38 at 100 ISO film speed. The hot shoe only has one central contact meaning the gun only has manual flash power control (eight levels). Initially I could not get the gun to work on the HS30, so I looked through the camera settings menu and found the external flash option was set to OFF: for some strange reason, setting it to ON fixed the problem...Duh! ;) Also be aware that with the Fuji HS30, the external flash hot shoe only fires in Manual, Programmed, Aperture and Shutter Priority modes: it does not fire in EXR, Auto, SP1 or SP2 modes. If you need the flash power setting automatically controlled by the Fuji HS30, you need the Fuji EF42 flash gun (Amazon product code ASIN B004NROYVM) at £140 which is a Fuji-customised SunPak. Whilst being able to have the flash power controlled by the camera is useful on a film camera, in my book it's not worth an extra £110 for the occasional shot or two with a digital camera where more light is needed. THE GOOD: Price Has a pull-down flash diffuser and pull-out white reflector above the flash area Flash head has 90 degree vertical rotation and 270 degree horizontal movement (90 one way, 180 the other) for bounce flash use (or even blinding yourself if you so wish!!). Has two slave modes of operation as well as manual mode, meaning it can be used as a slave fill-in flash gun. Takes 4X AA batteries - including rechargeable types. Seems quite well made and sturdy. Comes with a 1/4 inch tripod mounting bracket for slave use. The NOT-SO-GOOD: Cannot be used for any length of time with rapid firing at high power: any more than 10 shots in a minute or so and the gun will auto shut-down to prevent overheating. Seems to be immune to overheating at low power settings tho'. Overall, a reasonably made inexpensive flash gun for those who have a hot shoe external flash connector and only need manual flash power control, or for occasional use where more flash power is needed than can be provided by the camera's on-board flash. Especially recommended for the novice photographer or those on a limited budget.

Good value, powerful enough for medium sized rooms.
I used this with a Nikon P7800 compact camera. It was bought for a family event in a medium sized hotel room and worked well. Pretty quick to recycle charge at medium power settings. I used Duracell AA batteries.

Neewer TT560 - Great Product
If you're buying this, make sure you understand that it is manual only - it will not meter via TTL, but for me this is an advantage, not a disadvantage. The power levels are so simple to adjust via two buttons on the back and this makes it easy to get just the right exposure. I also have a TTL Metz flash that I use with my Pentax K-5's and the Metz normally stays in the camera bag because the Neewer is just so much better and more easily controlled. I bought the flash primarily for macro use with my home-made macro flash diffuser, but it has been put to good use in other areas too. It works great as a slave flash (optical) or with a remote trigger. Build quality is excellent for the price (better than the Metz), recycle times are fast and battery life is good. It comes with a soft pouch and a stand for Tripod use; all in all it is an excellent bit of kit and well worth it for serious amateur or even semi pro use.

Used once and already broken
I used this flash once of my Nikon d7500 (which it is compatible with) worked fine. I went to use the flash a week after and the intensity light won't stop flashing at the lowest level. Flash isn't firing. Changed batteries and turning it on and off but nothing. Ive looked up ways to fix this but other on the Internet. Don't buy this!

The Neewer TT560 is an excellent little workhorse of a light source for straightforward manual-only applications. I measured its light output with a meter and found that at full power it is only about two thirds of a stop less bright than my very powerful full-featured (and expensive!) Pentax AF540FGZ flashes. Advantages of the TT560 include: super simple to setup and operate; solid feel and construction; comes with a self-standing foot and soft draw-string bag. Because it has no LCD display and therefore no complex modes, you can configure it easily when installed inside a softbox, pretty-much by feel alone. Disadvantages: has no zoom; flash sync no faster than 125th second; you cannot disable its sleep mode. No zoom is not an issue used inside softboxes and umbrellas. Sleep mode is set quite long so I haven't been bothered by that. Flash sync is a minor issue since I usually work at 1/160th second, but 1/125th of a second is fine for most studio work. I have been using the two TT560's I bought for rim-lighting and fill in portraits and model shots, and I have found they are reliable and pretty consistent. I have used them both with radio triggers and as simple slaves, triggered off the main light. But I have also used them singly or as a pair for complete lighting setups on their own, inside Westcott Apollo softboxes and umbrella octa softboxes. I'd recommend these flashes to anyone needing a few inexpensive manual flashes for off-camera work, especially to supplement your main light(s).

***NOTE*** THIS IS A MANUAL FLASH...YOU CANNOT USE YOUR CANON CAMERA FLASH MENU TO CONTROL THE FLASH. I must say, I didn't have high expectations for this flash. I checked some of the reviews and they were mixed, but reviews are a small part of the reason I make a purchase. The flash is pretty well built for the price range, and seems like it will last for a long time. The optical slave NEVER misses, and it's extremely sensitive even when it's turned in the opposite direction of the master flash. Even though I'm a professional Photographer...to me...Light is light no matter where it comes from. If your flash cost you $500...can I use this flash an create the same image?...You bet I can...How you use your equipment is more important than what equipment you have. Don't get me wrong though...more expensive pieces of equipment usually have more options and allow you certain freedoms, but ehhh...learn with the cheap stuff, and once you see your limits with this equipment...move on from there. ****************************************** Update!!!!: 9/11/2013 First of all (today is 9/11) my condolences to those who have lost loved ones as I did in the attacks) It has been ALMOST 2 years since I've purchased 3 of these flashes, and they are still working PERFECTLY!!! I'm not a fan of spending money on things that will breakdown in the future, and these flashes have been banged around and thrown all over the place yet they still continue to produce excellent light for my photography needs. I usually use them for background, hair lights, and sometimes as a filler when it's needed and they have been great. The construction is solid, ease of use is key, optical slave is super sensitive and reliable. When you have good batteries in them...the recycle time is quick. I recommend VERY good rechargeable batteries (eneloop and powerex have never failed me). ****************************************** Update: 12/9/2013 I ordered another one today to use as another slave...the other 3 that I have are still working perfectly fine and I have never had a problem with them at all. for such a cheap product...it's pretty shocking that they last this long and contunue to fire on command in slave mode without a miss!!!! I might be getting 2 more of these for a total of 6...some of my light setups are very elaborate, and I've learned the distance to power ratio in my studio of these flashes and never need to meter tham...they add light just where I need it when I have a snoot on each one. PERFECT!!!

Operates perfectly with my Canon M50 camera. Easy to set up on, or off the camera hot shoe.
