Mortimer, the harmony soft rock trio from New York State who signed with Apple Records in 1968 on the strength of George Harrisons say so. The second LP of their career was due for release in the summer of 1969 but was pulled at the last minute due to changes at Apple. The tapes have sat in the vaults ever since. Now RPM is pleased to present for the first time the LP that should have been the release straight after The Iveys LP in the Apple Records catalogue. Mastered from the original tapes, the recordings were originally produced by Peter Asher with additional arrangements by Richard Hewson. Bearing a photo taken by Peter Asher, this is from a previously unseen cache of photos archived by Apple, a select few of which adorn the CD booklet. The title track is the song given to Mortimer by Paul McCartney which The Beatles later recorded as Two Of Us.

Mortimer ....At last
Recorded in 1969 and finally released in 2017, Mortimer's ill fated album For the Beatles Apple label. Mortimer were a three piece band using primarily acoustic guitars and various percussion instruments. The album was produced by Peter Asher , Apple' s A & R man. Before it's release Paul McCartney offered the band a song "On Our Way Home". They recorded the song and it was planned to be a single Apple 16. However before the album was released , a certain Mr Klein forced Asher out of Apple , and the single nor the album was released. On our way Home was recorded by the Beatles as Two of Us on the Let it Be album. The tracks released now are very interesting. The songs are strong and fresh although some of the production and arrangements get in the way a little for my taste. I think Apple missed a trick here as Mortimer could have went on to enjoy great success . The have a similar sound to America , but with a little more edge . Give it a try

Nice to at last hear On Our Way Back Home ...
Mortimer' unrealeased album recorded for Apple Records. Nice to at last hear On Our Way Back Home which Paul McCartney gave the band to record and eventually turned up on the Beatles' Let It Be album as Two Of Us.The rest of the album is a mixture of styles with no real identity. Another great RPM release

Mortimer
A great late 60’s album which didn’t get the push it should have at the time, but a great listen if not essential it’s still worth hearing - a sort of American Badfinger story - you make your decision.!
