How It Works: The Mum (Ladybirds for Grown-Ups)

I preordered this book and it arrived today. I must live in a world of my own because I didn't even know these books were in existence. Well what can I say I do now and hilarious is the one word I would use to describe this book and hilarious is also the word I would use to describe my daughters face when I opened it and proudly announced that the ladybird book was for me. That expression will be engraved in my memory for ever. I am laughing as I type this thinking about it. This book is genius on so many levels, I was time warped back to my school days in one moment and then back to my early Mum years in the next. Actually it covers all my Mum years to date, The only thing that changes are the demands!! I have read this book from cover to cover twice over now and it enchants me. The text and pictures are the classic ladybird design. The content is pure and utter entertainment of being a Mum. I swear they raided my diary at some stage but then I guess most if not all Mums out there who read this will say the same. Brilliant and I am off now to find my next ladybird book for my collection. PS Page 30 was a particular favourite of mine - Geez that brought back some memories that are best left behind :)

Very funny book in good condition

It underlines all the mums out there and is a perfect gift for a new mum or for her birthday. And is made of very good material and can't see it getting dog ears for a long time.

Bought as a gift for my Besty as she's proud single mum to a 9 year old and every page brought laughter and agreement. Just like those ladybird books from our childhood, but this time made for adults in the modern world. Worth every penny. Don't forget your child playing Ipad in Argos though!

This book is the perfect blend of nostalgia, humour and modernity. The re-purposing of familiar images (if like me you’re over forty and learnt to read with Ladybird books) with amusing comments on the peculiar trials of being a Mum. I am not a Mum but many of my friends are and this is close to word for word some of their moans and concerns. The never getting to go to the loo alone is covered, as is never drinking a whole cup of tea and having the Octonauts theme tune going round in your head. A friend of mine once had her son insist that she formally introduce him to Captain Barnacle. I’m going to buy copies of this for all my Mum friends.

This is a wonderful book. Originally bought it for my daughter who has just had a baby. But when I read it (ok, so you’re not supposed to read books before giving them as presents) I found it so funny but it was aimed at being a mum from baby to teen (& older) so gave it my mum instead. Yes, she loved it. I defy anyone who has had a child not to laugh / identify with this book! Brilliant!

I'm not sure if these come in a boxed set, but I've got so many of them now, I must be close to collecting the whole set. Might be quirky for American readers, but anyone who lived in England will be tickled pink!

The book is good but the book looked old and uses and second hand with dirt on the cover .
