Why is nobody talking about these?
Short version: Expectations must be managed. These speakers are by no means "professional grade" however you're paying about a third of what would be deemed a professional price. And for that price you're gaining a very clean sound. A tasteful and neat design, and a level of convenience that other bookshelf speakers can be lacking in. If you're in the market for some bookshelf speakers and your budget is under £300, these are a safe, solid choice. Longer version: So! I've made a point to hold off from reviewing these until the speakers have had some time to settle in. These speakers are not as well published as similar offerings from Kanto and Audioengine, I had been researching speakers for my desk for quite some time and one day I just happened to stumble across these. Upon further research, Fluance is a Canadian brand established in 1999, famed for their Vinyl turn tables. The Sound: Very clean, High notes have a brightness to them without being at all harsh on the ears, these speakers are very easy to listen to. Vocals and midrange tones are clear and again, very clean, perhaps with a slight warmth? Though that could equally be summed up to your equaliser. Bass has a good roll off and id responsive, however of course, with many mid size to smaller bookshelf speakers, its not as punchy as it could be, If these are going to be your "forever Speakers" then i'd suggest supplementing with a subwoofer if/when convenient. I certainly plan on it. Yet its not a must have. Design: Its too much to ask for a real wood finish at this price, however the veneer finish is a nice matte wood grain effect. No visible glue marks or seams, Overall these are probably the prettiest speakers in their class. They do lack any kind of speaker grill mounting options, so be careful if you've got small children that might poke the tweeters inside out. Creature comforts: Easily the dumbest yet best feature of these speakers is you have the ability to turn off the darn status LED! So many speakers ruin their clean looks by having some obnoxious green or blue light to tell you its turned on! The Fluance speakers allow you to turn off this status light, allowing them to maintain a subtle and classical appearance. Beyond that they come with a simple remote with all the main functions one could need, plenty of speaker wire so you can really space them apart if you want to. Cons?: Of course the lack of really punchy bass is to be expected, there's little way to avoid that without tampering with the clean and crisp sound these speakers produce. A subwoofer is definitely a purchase on the horizon. Would have been nice to have a USB input as well. Some computers can have a bit of hiss if you're connecting via 3.5mm jack.

Excellent
Been contemplating buying new speakers for my pc. I had Edifiers which have been great little speakers for the last 5 years. It was a toss up between the Fluance or Q Acoustics. The Q's were a tad too big. And the Fluance Ai41 had great reviews. Letting them run in for at least 10 - 20 hours for the bass to settle down. Can't fault them at the moment. They look and sound great so far.

Best powered speakers for £250
For £250, these are stunning speakers. Paired with my Fluance turntable, vinal as never sounded better in our house. Takes about10hrs to break in, and get better by the day. Awesome.

Solid speakers
I've been using it for a month and very satisfied with the sound quality. In a small room they sound clear and detailed, thanks to big drivers. No concerns regarding the build quality. Nicely complements the decor. Remote control is simple.

Bang for buck
Well made, easy to set up, and - most importantly - delivery a very balanced and accurate sound. Unlike some other speakers of this size its performance in the lower frequencies is surprisingly punchy. I’m amazed that cabinets of this quality are available at this price point - but very grateful. Fluance is establishing quite a reputation and fan base. We may well have a classic in the making.

I am so impressed with these small bookshelf speakers! I bought them to accompany my new Fluance turntable, but they are now my main home audio/home theatre speakers as well. The clarity, “punch” and volume are just incredible. I have the turntable into the main input, my tv optical hooked up to play music through/via my Apple TV, and there is a Bluetooth input as well for streaming directly from my smartphone. I have completely moved my vintage stereo components and speakers into storage, they don’t even compare. These speakers are a dynamite value for the price. And they look GREAT.

These are pretty great. I am able to use them with bluetooth with my laptop or phone, use them as additional surround sound from my tv using optical and you can add a sub which i haven't yet. Honestly, they have a pretty full sound as is. My one complaint is i think they could go louder especially if the bass is turned down but they have a clear cut off. Some sources they seem lackluster while others quite loud but still clear and full so the sound is always great. Turning down the bass doesn't allow them to push any harder though s you get what you get. I have tried them with a DAC I have laying around to pump the bass on them and they become very alive for cinematic use with this low end rumble. It's not so much a sub sound, but a very solid lower mid range that does shake the walls a bit. They don't get as loud, but this is likely due to the source being RCA in this case vs the optical. This sound is NOT attainable without an additional EQ source and its something I use as an extension to my tv's sound and not the main source, but it is impressive. Honestly, these are great quality, look great, are well built speakers with awesome sound. They are just limited a bit by the built in DSP and amp, maybe the bigger ones fair better. I will prolly get the ai61 as I want to see the diff and i'm very happy with these. I have no regrets (this is rare with sound equipment) and they literally connect to almost everything. No speaker is perfect, but pound for pound these have impressed me for the size and I would buy them again without question.

alright so far, but didn't have optical/rca cables included - why? sound is a bit flat with high frequencies being hissy. and i'm saying it as hd650 user. most super-positive reviews are from vinyl listeners, i think those ppl have pretty low bar for sound quality to begin with.

I'm so pleased with the quality of these bookcase speakers. They have a rich, warm sound and enhance the quality of my records. Bluetooth connection to my phone is easy and works well but I did have to patch in to my record player as the connection just wasn't great. I suspect that's my record player's fault as the connection on other devices is perfect. Very happy and would purchase again.

I purchased these powered speakers over a month ago and would have say I'm very satisfied with this purchase which says a lot since tech purchases can be so hit and miss. These were part of a TV/entertainment center replacement project - old TV, huge old wired speakers and a misfiring amplifier. The new TV challenge was getting past its Roku's preference for its own sound peripherals. These speakers are bluetooth, optical, rca compatible so no problem there. The sound is robust, very deep with controllable bass/treble with a very compact size (10'' high) and pleasing appearance. It's also capable of receiving any bluetooth source input, be it your phone, computer, tablet or even an ION bluetooth turntable and it comes with its own remote. In the Cable TV/Audio scenario, the challenge is one of multi-remote when you can have as many 3 (the TV, Cable and Speakers) to deal with. I solved this with a Sofabaton backlit universal which solves this with a combination of methods. Excellent speakers
