Harry Potter Film Wizardry: Updated edition: The official guide to the magical world of Harry Potter, a must-read book for fans of all ages.

Having recently read other behind the scenes Harry Potter books (The Character Vault, The Creature Vault and Magical Places from the Films) I was unsure whether I would learn much more by picking up “Harry Potter Film Wizardry” but the positive reviews for it on Amazon persuaded me that it was worth a look. I’ll admit that I didn’t really learn anything from this book that I hadn’t already learnt from the other three Harry Potter books, but there were so many more photos in this book. Along with all the new photos were several other cool things, including prop replicas such as Harry’s Letter, a Marauders Map, a Quidditch World Cup Programme, Advanced Potion Making, and a Yule Ball menu among other things. The replicas are all brilliant, many of which I’m too scared to get out and look at properly (like the Marauders Map). The book is really nicely laid out, with many pages in the style of the Daily Prophet, or other designers notebooks. The book is mostly in chronological order, working its way through each of the films and the characters. All in all Film Wizardry is a good book and I’ve loved looking through it. Although I didn’t really learn anything different from this book as I did in the other three books mentioned, I would recommend the book to anyone who wants a good look behind the scenes in the making of all the Harry Potter films. In many ways this book is more like a scrapbook than a conventional reference source. Part of it's charm is that it looks like someone has created a personal scrap book of mementos and collectables from the Harry Potter movies. This makes it a fresh and enjoyable read - there are so many items on every page, it is difficult to know which to read or look at first! At only 24.2 x 28.6 x 2.5 cm, 160 pages and 1.4kg in weight, this book is really the little brother of the more comprehensive mammoth sized "Harry Potter: Page to Screen" by Bob McCabe. In truth, the two books are totally different - "Film Wizardry" attempts to provide a rush of memories and energy from a well assembled scrapbook format, where as "Page To Screen" is more like an encyclopaedia. You can get through "Film Wizardry" in a few hours, but it is so much fun, it can be re-read again and again. "Film Wizardry" covers the visual elements of the films tremendously well. In brilliant colour images there are costume sketches and designs, story board sequences, memorable scenes created by the concept artists and maps and diagrams illustrating the complex rooms and corridors of Hogwarts School and the mysterious nooks and crannies of Diagon Alley. Most magical of all are the various movie prop replicas which enable you to grasp and hold some of the magical items from the world of Harry Potter. It is best to leave these as a surprise as there is a lot of excitement in discovering them for the first time! One or two teasers are a copy of Harry's letter from Hogwarts School and a copy of Libatius Borage's "Advanced Potion-Making" - but it is more fun to discover these yourself! This is a must-have book for any serious Harry Potter enthusiast, and even someone with a casual interest in the J K Rowling books or the Potter movies would find this lots of fun and highly informative.

After much anticipation it arrived this morning and I can honestly say that it was worth the wait! I am a self-confessed Potter nerd, a mahoosive fan of both the books and films and for me this is such a wonderful insight into the backstage world of the Warner bro's films. The layout is beautiful and almost scrap-book like in its collaboration of photos, film visuals and text and the bright and bold colour makes it enviting. It is chocca block full of facts and information coming from all areas of the films production alongside stories and anecdotes from many of the cast and crew too. For me personally the best bits of the book cover the visual elements of the films, from costume sketches, story boards, scenes created by the concept artists and maps showing the intricate layouts of Hogwarts and Diagon Alley the work is truly stunning. Best of all are the facsimilie replicas which allow you to hold that little bit of Harry Potters world in your hands, I won't give away all of the suprises but there are some incredibly intricate props tucked away within the book which really do bring it all to life. I would reccomend this book to absolutely anyone with even an incling of an interest in Harry Potter. Having just biefly flicked through it I can already really appreciate the incredible amount of work that went in to the films and I look forward to an evening spent reading it cover to cover!

I bought this as a birthday present for my sister. She is a Harry Portter fanatic. I came across this book at the Harry Potter Store Whismical Alley, here in LA. There was a sample that you can flip through. The pictures were amazing and the details it gave about the Harry Potter books, movies were simply amazing. Long story short, my sister could not stop raving about this book, she said that it also came with the Harry potter map and other Harry Potter stuff. So from all her raving I gave it a 5 star review.

Książka jest absolutnym must have dla każdego fana. Jest w niej zawartych mnóstwo ilustracji i ciekawostek związanych z planem filmowym, do tego sporo elementów typu pop-up. Niestety zdjęcie jest mylące- książka posiada kilka wydań różniacych się zakresem. Sprzedawane jest inne niż to na mimiaturce. Mimo zgloszenia tego faktu obsłudze- błąd nadal jest na stronie.
