The soundtrack from his romantic comedy 'Under the Cherry Moon', the album often sounds like a preview of the supremely surefooted quirkiness of its follow-up, the classic 'Sign o' the Times'. Marrying lean funk grooves to over-the-top orchestrations and trying his hand at Parisian balladry and a hushed, 'Pet Sounds'-style instrumental, he triumphs as few other record makers did in 1986. Review: 'Vous etres belle' - Probably my favourite Prince album, such a productive era for him and his cohorts Alexander, Jamie and Joey. For me this is an album first and then a soundtrack if you know what I mean, this was also an insight into his musical flexibility and arrangement skills, a window to what was to come the following year. Pure class and genius. With regards to the vinyl quality mentioned in previous reviews, I just played both sides of the album I received a couple of days ago and it plays perfectly with no clicks, skips or pops. The paper used to make the sleeve is thicker and better quality compared to an original copy. Review: Beautiful repressing but needs a decent turntable - Wouldn't play without skipping on my cheaper turntable but having upgraded my turntable it now plays beautifully and I can happily say this is a terrific repressing of this forgotten gem in Prince's back catalogue. Songs come to life like never before with wonderful stereo separation and soundstage.

Like the stripped down sounds of this album. Unique.
Like the stripped down sounds of this album. The album has a great flow. It also has songs that stand alone: girls & boys, under the cherry moon, sometimes it snows in April, Kiss, mountains, and another lover..

Fantastic, underrated album.
A great album and a really good pressing, I'm listening to vinyl for around 35 years and no records have skipped because I've listened on proper turntables.

Stunning album, but jumps.
I had the same problem as many others had - the first side starts jumping as New Position begins, then continues at various points throughout. I got a replacement - from a different supplier too, and it jumped in exactly the same places. Total bummer, because I think this might be my favourite Prince album, and let's face it, the competition is brutal around this, his imperial phase. I think Parade, with Around The World In A Day, gets a bit lost in that space between landmarks Purple Rain and Sign O' The Times, but just look at that tracklist. It's a virtual "And here's how virtually all edm/hip-hop/r n b music will sound for the next 25 years - or at least, it'll try to, and generally fail." I think I might try buying an old vinyl from back in the day, but in the meantime, I still have my trusty cd. (The vinyl Purple Rain, getting its first play on my turntable as I write this, has managed to get through side 1 without disaster, and the sound quality is superb. Took a break... end of side 2 - no problems there either) Btw, if you ever, as I did, thought that Around The World In A Day sounded a bit weedy on your old cd or cassette, buy the new vinyl and you'll be playing it all the time - I know I am. (Oh yeah, and I know it's outside the imperial phase, but The Gold Experience has just been reissued on vinyl and is well worth your attention.) I could go on, but I already have.

I love this album
Had it the first time around but this 180g repress sounds fantastic. Bit of a mix with instrumentals, love songs and dirty pop/ funk but still works nicely.

Great music, warped vinyl
Had to send two back as both discs were warped. 5 stars for Prince but I must have tapped into a bad batch.

Sublime quirky funkiness
I got lost deep inside this album for the best part of 1986 - more than happy to do the same 30 years later!

I just wanted to report my experience after reading so many reviews that had problems with skipping. I received my copy today and it is perfect. I cleaned it as usual before ever spinning it. Carbon fiber brush, then L'Art du Son record cleaner and Vinyl Vac. Played on Audio Technica AT-LP120XBT-USB. Listened to both sides beginning to end. The playback was flawless and crisp with no skips whatsoever. Very enjoyable, and took me back in time. ABsolute steal at this price.

One of Prince’s best records. I recover my copy but it was scratched/ had a defect. Other reviews say this has happened as well. However the LP was replaced swiftly and this one is great. Love this album.

Often underrated because of the movie it's a soundtrack to, Parade is amazing, and part of that decade long run where Prince was at the height (heh) of his formidable powers. From the four song suite that opens the album (New Position is best bro), to the banging Girls and Boys, to the epic Mountains and Anotherlover..., to the now so-sad-its-nearly-unlistenable Sometimes It Snows In April, Parade is a constantly transforming masterpiece. Note, I didn't even mention the biggest and best song. No need. You all already know! This sounds GREAT on vinyl, so take yo @$$ to the 'wrecka stow' and cop a copy post-haste! It indeed snowed this past April. RIP to the greatest artist of all time.
