New Store Stock Review: Very good introduction to what you need to know to Teach EFL - As an introduction to the subject and a preperation for the course it has been very, very useful. It covers all aspects of the teaching programme with just enough detail on what is required to Teach EFL and that makes the book easy to read and the subject matter as a start up, easy to absorb. The book is well structured and the style straight forward. Flicking to the tips and summary at the end of each section will I suspect be a useful reminder and way of using the book later. You will however need other books for covering the grammar and teaching materials on the English language. When writing this review I have yet to start my CELTA course so I will know it's value in retrospect in a few weeks time. But I have read it cover to cover and now I know what I need to know and do, to complete the course. Review: Very comprehensive - The book is well laid out and easy to read with 30 chapters. It is a comprehensive examination of the skills needed to teach English to adults and organising lessons with a wealth of experience to back it up.

Great guide!!
This book is a great guide for anyone wanting to teach English as a foreign language. It provides you with excellent tips on how to teach in order to book the best results with your students. For anyone caring about their students, wanting to give them the best guidance they possibly can, this is the answer. You might have to adapt some of the information in the book to the level and age of the students you are dealing with, but I would definitely recommend this book to any teacher of EFL, no matter which level or age group you will teach, as it has some valuable information in it every teacher should get acquainted with and consider before teaching.

Excellent - clear and practical!
This is an excellent introduction - or in my case refresher - to what you really need to know in the TEFL classroom, outlining all you need to know to get started/restarted in a clear and concise way. It's a quick read and doesn't go into learning theory etc. but then that's not the aim. I love the "What would you do if...?" chapter, giving some ideas if the unexpected happens e.g. a student says "this is boring" or you leave your lesson plan at home! Highly recommended.

Just okay
The author tends to waffle too much and I really don't like how he just calls the teacher "she". There are guy teachers you know. But otherwise quite good information

A Must-Buy!
My teaching course was falling short on teaching practical teaching methods, too much focus on theory, reflection etc. But my placement ESOL class every week required me to teach grammar, reading, writing lessons etc. I stumbled upon this book in the library and it was so good I just had to buy my own copy - I have also recommended it to course colleagues who have purchased their own. It is very readable, well laid out and gave me lots of confidence in teaching ESOL. A few weeks after getting this book, we covered the structure for a grammar lesson in my course evening class - I was suddenly a subject expert among my peers! This is an excellent buy (I've still got my library copy, which I'll use as long as I can keep it on loan, as I know my own copy will be well-used in the future). Any chance the laminated-type covers that my college get could be available for books like this to keep them in good shape?

Really useful book for an introduction to EFL
Really useful book for an introduction to EFL. If you're doing your CELTA it will definitely help you consolidate some of the ideas they teach you, however, beyond CELTA I find the book to be useful only as a reference for teacher training techniques and not actual classroom management
