Not the most substantial but the lowest cost
It works, but it's very flimsy and chickens tend to beat it up or push it round. The pedal board is shiny paint and muddy chicken feet just slip on it unless they jump on the right spot. For the effort of training birds to use one of these, get a better one. If my birds had already learned may have been better suited to winter. Fortunately they don't mind wet pellets. If I could screw it to the floor of a shed keeping rain off it would be better.

Decapitation more likely than feeding
1) NOT galvanized as advertised - after the head line the small print says painted - would you have looked if it was honest and said grey painted steel before galvanized 2) assembly holes for bolts in arm are the wrong size, two of the bolts fell out 3) due to ultra thin metal there was a gap in the bottom after assembly chicken feed leaks out of gaps from end plates, which the rats appreciate - useless should have a lip to prevent this and be stronger 4) it stands too high for chickens to reach food, non of the bantams could reach in, the others could get food if it was loaded to within 1cm of the top after that was gone they could not reach the rest - very comic watching them try to fly up before the lid closed 5) decapitates chicken - the painted treadle is so slippy the chicken slide off, for those with longer necks this means the treadle rises and the lid comes down on their head to a very thin vertical metal sheet. If they had not slid off it would have chopped the head off, instead it just caught the beak - second thoughts maybe its a safety feature making the slide off? 6) we had near miss for a chicken putting its head in from the side when another slid off the treadle - Sorry but this is not as advertised and is going back, not rat proof and not suitable for feeding chickens

The hens like it
I keep it open with a weight. Good feeder.

Cheaply made
It's ok but a bit cheaply made. Food drops through seams which defeats object a little and it scams shut, frightening chickens. Some of the heavier breeds like buff orpingtons use it more, but not the slighter breeds as too noisy. Needs a quieter or slower close

Headless chicken springs to mind
I’ve persisted with this feeder but quite honestly I should of sent it back when it was put together there was gaps down the side where the feed fell out, so that’s going to attract the rats isn’t it? The bit that the chicken is supposed to stand on is so slippery that the chicken slides off it and nearly decapitates itself, it also tips over and it has to be on level ground or it doesn’t open enough, I guess I’ll end up selling it on 😞

Great item
As expected powder coated which makes it nicer than my previous one. Easy to assemble. Does need to be attached to some wood to allow the lid to open fully.
