Death: A Graveside Companion

I don’t think of myself as a particularly morbid person, although I do like skulls and skeletons. This book caught my attention because I figured it would have a lot of good artwork with skulls and skeletons. It does indeed have those, but there is so much more. I read the forward, the introduction, and a few of the essays. There’s some thoughtful commentary in this book, very much worth the time to read. Hopefully I will have time to read everything at some point in the future.Visually this is fantastic. Lots of artwork and photos. You will not feel cheated with this book. This production is both substantive and voluminous.As a book collector, I am kind of picky. I would give this an A+. I do wish it had a cloth cover with a dust jacket, but I’ll take it as it is. Some people have commented on the copper colored ink being difficult to read. That concerned me. At 61, my vision is not the greatest. But I had absolutely no problem reading any part of this book as long as I was wearing my regular glasses. To my eye, the copper is just as readable as black ink would have been. So I wouldn’t let that concern you too much.I was very impressed by this book; my congratulations and thanks to the people who produced it. This might be one you want to get before it goes out of print.

This was purchased as a birthday gift for an artist friend. He was very happy with it.

Gorgeous book, makes a great gift. Nice big glossy pictures and interesting information. Really special! (Its hard to find professional and classy books on this....unique type of material.)Unfortunately, the shipping/delivery was not so great. Corners of the book were smashed. Won't be buying art books from Amazon again, its not worth it when they come damaged and are meant to be displayed.

I purchased a used copy of this book. There were a couple of dings and a tear on the spin which was easily fixable with tape. I would definitely recommend buying used to knock a few bucks off the price. The book is gorgeous with sooo many images. One thing I will say though—I would literally fight the person who approved a dark brown background with light brown text.

I am really excited to start reading this, I just opened my box and I am very pleased, I received it while at work so I haven’t had time to read more than a couple of pages but I can already tell I won’t be able to put it down! It's larger than I expected (but accurate to product description) very high quality printing, the pages are beautiful and the photos are very clear. The price is excellent for what you’re getting, most similar books I own are closer to $40.00 so I am happy with the price. I would recommend this book, it seems very interesting and I can't wait to start reading this evening.

I am so glad I got this book! With amazing pictures and illustrations from around the world, and from various cultures, you get to dig deep into humanity’s relationship with one of the most misunderstood yet necessary force of them all-death!

This is a great book with a lot of interesting content and art. I'm not sure if the gold text would be easy for everyone to read, and there was a weird stain on one of the first pages. It's small and that's the only one I found, but for a "new" book it was odd

An absolutely beautiful book. If you’re into history and death or the macabre this is really a wonderful choice for your collection. The photographs and pictures included are so interesting and beautiful.

Fantastic pictures. It came in perfect condition. The information was good but not as deep as I would have liked it. It is information you could easily find using Duck Duck Go or Google.

Such a fantastic book, visually stunning with a plethora of really well curated illustrations. I was expecting the text to be illegible based on other reviews here, but to my pleasant surprise it’s fine. I’ve only read the first few sections but they’re extremely well written, informative and very much in context with the images in the section. It’s a seriously well put together and beautiful book.Mine did arrive in a box that had obviously been dropped, and the was some crumpling of the base of the spine, but Amazon were brilliant in making it right.Very happy to own this.
