The Tournament Golfer's Playbook: Change your mind, Change your life: The Path of the Tournament Golfer

Improve Your Golf Game and Improve Your Life
While I am a childhood friend of the author, I can give a very objective review of this book. Mike wrote this book with the primary intent of helping Tournament Golfers who desire to achieve better tournament outcomes. Mike achieved his objective and so much more. To give you some perspective here, I literally grew up with golf as my Dad was a very good player and a fierce competitor. I have been watching pro tournaments on TV since I was ten years old. Mike and I really started learning the game and playing when we were in junior high school, and Mike’s ability and competitiveness stood out even then. He was soon leading our Junior High and High School golf teams. Mike had a standout high school and college golf career and made the PGA tour. After his PGA tour career ended, Mike became a certified financial planner and founded a very successful financial services firm. He then went on to have one the greatest amateur golf careers in Texas golf history. I say all this to give you a better perspective on the author. Mike’s experiences as a competitive high school, college and pro golfer would give him a great foundation from which to write this book. However, his post pro golf business career and amateur golf successes along with his life experiences really builds upon this foundation and makes him the perfect author for this book. Mike has learned so much from life and has applied it to being a better Tournament Golfer and a better person. Each chapter of the book ends with a “Life Hack”, which is a great way to illustrate the points made in the chapter. Mike really succeeds in how we can all learn from our successes and (more importantly) from our mistakes, with an emphasis of taking ownership of all things and having sound processes in place to achieve our desired goals and results. We have all made mistakes in life and regret them, but we need to own up to them, to learn from them, and then move on from them so that we can be the best version of ourselves. This book really delivers on that and so much more. I would recommend this book to any golfer period, whether he or she is 10 years old or 67 years old. While the book is meant for the Tournament Golfer, any golfer will benefit from reading it. The lessons from this book may appear to be obvious to some, but to actually take these lessons to heart and implement them is another thing entirely. You will not only be a better golfer, you will be a better golf partner, a better tournament golfer and a better person as well. This book is not just about golf and improving your golf game. It is also about life and improving your life. I want to end this review with a few accolades. Coach Lee Myers changed Mike’s life when he introduced golf to Mike when we were in junior high, and became a father figure for him. I was there to witness all that and can attest to everything Mike says about him in this book. More importantly, Mike’s Mom, Dorothy Booker, raised Mike and his two siblings as a single Mom, when being a single Mom could sometimes be a very hard and lonely life. She was a very strong and persevering woman and she did a great job raising her kids. I think she would be exceedingly proud of Mike and the fine man he has become. I am proud to call Mike my friend and I am honored to write this review. It is a fine book.

Great book from a Texas Legend
Mike Booker is a golf legend here in the Lone Star State. His insights into what it takes to be a tournament golfer as opposed to a golfer that plays tournaments are perfectly described. If you're serious about being the best tournament golfer you can be, this book is required reading.

Great information
I've started playing tournaments again and I coach a high school girls golf team. I've found many things within the pages of this book that will be helpful to me and the golfers I coach.

Good introduction
Great book but pretty generic information. Some gems though.

Much more than golf instruction
Mike Booker has assimilated ideas on the beauty of playing the game of golf while fusing both the physical and mental aspects of the game together in order to achieve both competitive success and sheer enjoyment of the greatest game ever. For the entirety of his life of "being a golfer" from early childhood throughout his hall of fame career, he has been attentive to "pearls if wisdom" sent his way from mentors, coaches and some of the greatest professionals of all time, to consolidate an approach to the game that can yield successes. For those who see golf as a metaphor for life, his "Life Hack" pages demonstrate a transference of grinding through a round of golf as an application to the challenges of grinding through the game of life. It's an easy read and one that golfers will return to often. I know I will

A great, short read about playing tournament golf
Mike Booker is a Houston legend, and one of the greatest Texas amateurs of the last fifty years. This book is a succinct guide to the mental game at the highest level, and it’s full of great anecdotes from Mr. Booker’s golf and business careers. This book is not just about golf. Highly recommend.

Absorb the lessons, manage your expectations, be a better, more complete player.
As golfers, from the outset of the game, we are taught the physical basics of the sport. So now you have a great swing and underachieve consistently. The greatest among us have accessed that "hidden" facet of success, the brain and its immense ability to enable good or bad outcomes to any situation. Strong thought, applied correctly may give you the keys to the magic kingdom. One way to find out for sure. I like this book a lot. Harold.
