Very happy so far, but ask me again in a few years...
I have replaced 2 external hard drives and 2 internal hard drives (for laptop) in about 6 years. Frustrating to say the least. This LaCie was recommended by a pro photographer friend of mine who swears by them. So far so good, but again it is only a week old. Right out of the box it was very simple to use - pretty much plug it in to your computer with provided USB and you're ready to go. Up/download speed seems good too. Give it a try. They come in different storage sizes but 1 TB seems like plenty for me.

2 years and going!
Very good storage drive. I’ve had it for 2 years already, no issues. Highly recommend!

Great product depends tho...
I did a lot of research on this drive and read a lot of reviews so I had my doubts. But I got it on time, the product is what I ordered and the set up/use is flawless.I even checked if it was a refurbished or not and it wasn’t.In the end it’s user error that most of the time this drive breaks. If your using this as a stay at home drive and don’t really travel much I don’t see this ever breaking (just don’t have it hanging from your desk when using it).If your traveling a lot and your careless with your stuff then I would get a SSD like a T5.That being said it’s worth the money in my opinion and use case!

A little bit of a challenge
The drive did not come formatted and would not work. I called their technical support number and held 35 minutes. When a tech finally answered he was EXCELLENT! He knew exactly the manufacturing mistake and guided me slowly and patiently through multiple steps to properly initialize the drive. It is working fine now. This is my second Rugged - I am a believer in spending the extra money for this type of housing after a friend dropped a "standard" external drive - just a small, off-the-counter no-denting drop that ruined all her storage on that external drive.I gave it a "4" only because it would not work out of the box.

Good and rugged
It’s a good looking and good feeling product! A little pricier than others but it seems to be good quality, which I don’t mind paying a little extra for!

Quit Working. Worthless Warranty
This is our 5th LaCie product, and until this one, we've been very satisfied.Bought from Amazon in Feb 2022. It's under warranty. I never move it, disconnect it, spill anything on it, or drop it. But in July, it just quit working. The Mac didn't recognize it after a backup on July 5. So I tried everything Apple recommends, and nothing helped. Much of it I tried more than once. I even contacted Apple, they walked me back through the possible ways to get it going, and nothing worked. The Apple guy said I just have a faulty external hard drive.I tried to get customer service help several times from Seagate, but only got chatbots. And even those didn't connect me to a live agent for sometimes an hour or 90 mins. One of the live agents disconnected after all that time leaving me to start over. Finally I got a good live agent, and she helped me to process the warranty claim and get an RMA. I paid for extra quick premium service because now I'd been without a backup for a month. This way, they'll send me a new/refurbished one ASAP and then I return mine using the same packaging when the new one got here (instead of me returning mine, they assess, then send me a new one). Only they never sent one. I waited weeks, and spoke with 2 other agents a week apart who all agree that yes I have an approved RMA and they SHOULD have sent a replacement, they don't know why it hasn't gone yet, and assure me they will get right on it. The last guy claims to have escalated it so that it will be expedited to me. Etc., etc. Long story--I still do not have any hard drive, nor is there any reason to believe they ever will get this process going.I'd advise against purchasing anything from Seagate. You won't be able to get help if you need it, and if you ever do reach a "live agent" on the chat, it's not going to do you any good. You'll just waste a lot of time figuring out what I did: the warranty literally isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Just buy a new one from another manufacturer.
