I bought a tent to go backpacking with, the very first night out a downpouring rainstorm hit me, the darn tent leaked like crazy, the water passed through the rainfly and poured into the tent. I contacted the tent maker and they sent be a new fly and told me to use Nikwax Tent & Gear, Tent & Gear Solarproof on the fly, and Gear Aid Seam Sure Water-Based Seam Sealer on the seams. I applied two coats of the seam sealant, after which I applied two coats of the Nikwax. I felt the rainfly and couldn't tell if any coating was on it, so I put 3 more coats on it, then it took on a waxy type of feel to it. I also applied both on the main body of the tent. About 3 months later during one of my outings it downed poured again with hard winds...not a single drop got into the tent! At the beginning of every season I reply the Nikwax but I only put on two coats because it still has that waxy feeling before I put on the fresh coats; I haven't noticed any degradation of the seam sealer which could be due to the Nikwax over top of it? I don't know, but so far it's holding up. Some readers might think that putting on 5 coats initially was an extreme overkill, perhaps, but I do know this, I no longer get wet, and none of my stuff gets wet, and for me that was more than worth it. Do I recommend this stuff? Oh yeah!

My tent was about 12 years old and started to leak. I put one coat following their directions and sealed my tent in one coat. I highly recommend this product. It was so easy I will do this yearly now.

This stuff is really easy to use. 2 parts to 5 parts water. Simple as that in a spray bottle and spray on a wet tent/fly and wipe off excess with a clean white cloth (old t-shirt) and your done. I do this ever other year on an REI kingdom 8 that get's regular use every year and it's lasted 5 years now with rain nearly every trip in some form. Never a leak and it looks nearly new.

Update: Not sure what happened, but my boat is dry now. The first rain soaked through but the 2 rainfalls since have repelled (?). I am hopeful for the future. It is easy to apply so I do see myself re-applying annually or every other year. Reasonably priced. Nikwax works! I will buy again and I do recommend. Yippee! 1st review: I followed the directions. There is no change, the water soaks in/through the material and does not repel. I was so hopeful but I would not purchase again. I would not recommend.

My family and I went tent camping July 5-9th 2021. The same week Hurricane Elsa decided to grace Florida with her presence. It was a wild and WET week....outside the tent. Inside the tent it was dry as a bone! Not 1 leak the entire week! This stuff really REALLY works. I bought the concentrated bottle and mixed it myself. Our tent was 14x14 and we applied 1 full coat to the tent and rain fly. I still have ½ a bottle left. I put the solution in a spray bottle, stayed it on let sit for a few mins then wiped it into the tent with a rag. Took an hour to fully dry in the FL sun so it's not an all day task. I highly recommend this product!

As a Scoutmaster, I have used product for 15 years for our troops tents. It is the best product available at any price.

This was easy to apply, but it didn’t work well to revitalized our old tent.
