Abbey Aluminium Multi-Purpose Ladder 4.4m with New Safety Platform MPL44

I'm very pleased with this purchase. The item arrived promptly and we'll packaged. This multi-purpose ladder has proved invaluable in gaining access over and around various obstacles when painting the exterior of our house, particularly the lean-to on rear of property. I was able to fold the ladder at 90 degree on the centre hinge which effectively allowed me to crawl along the top of the lean-to (braced at the point between the house wall and lean-to). I also used the scaffolding option extensively which works very well, securely holding the walk panels in place with drop down pins. Initially I did have to overcome the psychological aspect of climbing up a ladder that can fold (it's a little disconcerting when your working at height, knowing there are fold points below your feet) but this is just "in your head' and the ladder has proved to be totally safe, stable and reliable. I've been able to manoeuvre the ladder into its various positions solo, though positioning into its use location is occasionally a 2 man operation, depending on the shape configuration being employed. The locking mechanisms on the hinges are easy to use and can be controlled one handed whilst you brace the frame with the other hand. Basically each bend-point on the ladder has a pair of hinges, each fitted with a spring loaded lock. You pull back a little Lever on a hinge which opens the lock for movement then do the same with its partner. This allows you to bend the ladder, moving it to its next lock point where it becomes automatically immobilised into position. Then repeat the process if you require a lock point further on. The spring-loaded hinges feel very secure and up to the job. The overall quality of the ladder is very good and I'm confident that as long as it is treated correctly and not abused it will last a long time indeed. My only, slight, concern is for the plastic push-on feet which appear to be wearing rather fast. These are anti-slip feet with groove profiles on the outer edge, designed to increase friction against work surfaces (floor or wall). Possibly the reason they seam to be wearing so quickly. I'm hoping these are available as a cost effective consumable. I felt the product was very competitively priced when compared to similarly specified alternatives. Excellent value for money. I did a lot of research before opting for this particular product, even going down as far as calculating the working height of each set of hinges off the floor, against the varying jobs I had planned. It hasn't let me down. I have no hesitation in recommending this product. Easily 5-star.

excellent set of ladders, include safety platforms and paint tray attatchments.used clean conservatory roof and cut hedges.will be used to re-paint garden cabin. Found very useful and quite light for the rigidty of the product. lock flaps little stiff at moment just need more use , obviously?

Excellent quality, very stable and rigid. Good value for money.

Very versatile and stable. I have been using it in a 'w' configuration, not one of the recommended ways to use it. I am not sure about using it as a platform with the aluminium 'boards' as it is a little narrow and surprisingly high. All in though I would recommend this as a versatile ladder that folds up well for storage. I was using it on uneven ground and it was still reasonably stable thanks to the 'feet'.

This is a really well made, incredibly useful and versatile ladder at a very reasonable price. Easy to adjust - just lift the catches on both sides of a joint, and move to the next position. The instructions could be a bit clearer, but it's pretty obvious when you look at the ladder! Folds up neatly for storage, even though it makes a great sized step ladder and long straight ladder. An extra benefit of this design as a step ladder is that both sides can be climbed, rather than just one side with a traditional step ladder. Very happy with this purchase and cheaper than less versatile tall stepladders.

I bought this after a recent house move & have been very impressed! They've been used to access the loft, put up curtain poles above stairs & as a platform to assist in felting the shed roof. The mechanism to open them can be a bit cumbersome at first, but after a little practice is pretty straightforward. Stability is good, the platform sheets are easy to use & the whole thing stores away nicely. Definitely worth buying if you have a bit of DIY to do need a multi-function ladder!

Great item

After buying from another make/supplier I had to send it back after the first couple of uses due to unsafe and poor quality, almost brock my neck when the platform bent and slipped off due to lack of clips to keep it from moving and they mend easily as they are not strong enough to hold a persons weight. So I then brought one from Abbey Aluminum and paid a little bit more and it was well worth paying more for. Much stronger and feel a lot safer, the platform is thicker and stronger and has much better sliding clips to stop the platforms from moving, it feels sturdier and doesn't creek and move when on it like the cheaper ones, and the clips clip in properly. So before you buy from another supplier just think you might save a few pounds at first but you could lose a lot more if you brake your neck on a cheaper one. So trust me, you wont regret buying an Abbey Aluminum Ladder.
