You’ll learn how to secure critical early wins, an important first step in establishing yourself in your new role. Each chapter also includes checklists, practical tools, and self-assessments to help you assimilate key lessons and apply them to your own situation. Whether you’re starting a new job, being promoted from within, embarking on an overseas assignment, or being tapped as CEO, how you manage your transition will determine whether you succeed or fail. Use this book as your trusted guide. Review: A useful guide for starting a new role - I bought this in May just before changing jobs, and it proved to be a good reference guide during those early weeks. It breaks down the transition period clearly, with practical strategies on how to get up to speed, build relationships and avoid the usual pitfalls. What I liked most is how it gives structure to something that often feels overwhelming. Having a framework to follow made the change feel more manageable, and I found myself dipping back into it regularly rather than just reading it once. It’s not a magic formula, but as a resource to keep you focused and intentional in a new role, it definitely delivers. Worth a read if you’re moving into a new position or stepping up into more responsibility. Review: Interesting, thorough and practical - Interesting, thorough and practical book about how to thrive in your first 90 days as a leader, whether you’re joining a new organisation or have been promoted from within. Gave me some good food for thought as well as practical exercises to do and actions to take in relation to my own situation. Likely to be one of those books you’ll need to refer to again for your next transition.

Food for thought,
Clearly written, even for those who do not read 'management studies', well reasoned, and in many places is well aware of the realities that face any Manager. Provides thoughtful and clear advice on how to plan an effective 'on boarding'. I also believe, and I am sure the author expects that executive level readers should clearly possess the ability to adapt the procedures , policies, plans and advice given to their own circumstances. However, I would also echo other reviewers, despite making some clear allowance for realities, this book is best suited to chief excecutives, rather than those limited to what they can change at middle management in 'legacy ridden' companies. Food for thought, but not quite the 'holy grail', its apparent belief that it is only detracts from its effectiveness.

Useful Aide Memoire
If you're moving up the career ladder - either through internal promotion or by joining another company - then this book will serve as a useful guide as to how to make a good impact in those first few months. Reassuringly there was much in the book that I'd already considered doing during the first days in my new role. There was also much that I hadn't considered and will be putting into practice. In short, this book provides the tactics and strategy you need to make a good impression in your new job and to keep your focus on those things that are most important. It's a good read and well worth the investment.
