So although the USB3 speed advantages are wasted on my old hardware
After finding that another Transcend product, a 32GB class-10 micro-SD card, under-delivered hugely performance-wise, on multiple computers when using various Huawei 3G modems as the card-readers, I suspected this it was my hardware that was at fault - so ordered this to see.Turned out I was right. On my all-USB2 hardware, with this card-reader, the Transcend 32GB class-10 card delivers a very respectable 30MB/s read, 13.5MB/s write speeds. So although the USB3 speed advantages are wasted on my old hardware, at least this card-reader allows fast cards to deliver. In case anyone is wondering, it is not possible to use both the SD and Micro-SD card-slots at the same time. Filling both slots results in neither cards being detectable - so it's one USB-slot per card I'm afraid, which also means one card-reader per card is required.A note on using Huawei modems as card-readers. I had presumed that such a simple function would have had been ably catered for by the Huawei design engineers. Not the case - as card-readers, these really are junk! My two modems delivered markedly different read/write performance from one another - and the reason I suspected them in the first place. The other point of note, it turns out that both modems are listed as being usable with cards only up to 8GB. I'm not sure why this is, given that both have no trouble reading/writing to 32GB cards. Also, there is no difference in the (abysmal) read/write speeds with cards that are 8GB of less that I have - hence my 'Huawei are junk' conclusion.

This is a hot product!
This SD/microSD card reader works as it should, it reads both types as stated and uses USB3.0 which is quite fast. The speed of transfer is limited by your SD card, your computer, and your storage device that you're copying the files over to (eg SD to HDD will be slower than SD to SSD) so speed tests are rather pointless. However, as others have said; and I hope we are just unlucky... this product gets very hot! The attached image is of the Transcend reader plugged into one of my front USB3.0 ports of my desktop with an SD card inside of it. Clearly this is a thermal image and is showing the hottest and coldest points that it can see. The cold spot is my wall behind and the glowing 41c heat signature is the card reader... it has reached this temperature after only a few minutes of operation and only reading from the card.If you need a permanent way of reading from (micro)/SD cards then consider installing a permanent card reader bay - presumably you're using this with a desktop as most laptops/notebooks have SD card readers built in.Overall it does the job for quick transfers when I need to do so from time to time.

WOULD BUY AGAIN
I really like this item.I had bought it because at the time I was solely working on my desktop PC. My PC did not have any ports for putting in SD cards or anything similar, so i really needed it.It arrived quickly through prime (of course) and is actually really good and easy to use (I don't know how it would be difficult to use but i'm just making it clear that it is a good product). It reads all cards and they show up on the computer quickly. The USB 3.0 is also a great bonus because of the fact that it makes uploading images to your computer much faster, brilliant for the price i may add.The only downfall this product has is that any time i tried to put multiple SD cards in the card reader and then plug it into my computer, either none or only one would show. Maybe this is just a fault of my one and I don't really mind having to keep changing the SD cards, it isnt that much of a bother, but it does get a bit tedious. Oh well. All is well!Ive had it for a couple of months and its still going great. Thanks!

Best bang per buck
This USB 3 SD/ Micro SD card reader is quite simply put the best bang per buck reliable reader there is.This is my 2nd one as I was so impressed with the 1st 1 that I bought. It's quite cheap & it's really good at it's job of moving data back & forth on your memory cards. This reader will be perfectly capable for the majority of users out there & should near enough max all your cards out at about 100Mbs +/- with DL's & UL's... If you have faster than 100mb/s cards & need that extra speed then I'd advice paying more & investing in the newer protocol Card readers but they're quite a bit more expensive by a long way.My cards are all U3 90/100 mbs ones so I'm happy enough with the speeds this little reader supplies to them as it maxes them out 99% of the time.Nothing bad to say on this product as it does exactly as it claims at a relatively cheap price too.Buy 1 ! unless you need Uber Quick Speeds ;)

Great little reader
When I bought one of my SD cards it came with a USB SD reader. When I buy microSD cards they usually come with an adapter to make them look like SD cards to card readers. Which is all well and good, but all my readers could support was SD and SDHC. As soon as SDXC appeared there was no assurance they would work, and it became a faff looking for the microSD adapter every time I wanted to read the smaller cards. This device has two slots - one for SD and one for microSD. It's a very neat compact unit, supports SDXC and also supports USB3 (useful for the higher capacity of SDXC cards). Of course it also supports SDHC and presumably regular SD (although I don't have any of the original SD cards to test it).It does feel a little flimsy at first, but then given how small it is it's hardly surprising, and it's the sort of thing I'd hope anyone would treat with at least a little care. It doesn't feel like it will break if I stare too hard at it, but I can see how putting much pressure on the case could cause problems. It's not a problem for me, it sits in a little pocket of my laptop bag with a few other USB doodads.
