Buy Daphnis and Chloe. Anthia and Habrocomes (Loeb Classical Library 69) Bilingual by Longus (ISBN: 9780674996335) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: An easy read by Xenophon - Just a quick comment on Xenophon's Ephesian Tale (haven't read Longus). This is an easy read with its relatively simple Greek (more so than Chariton or Achilles Tatius). It isn't great literature (nor are the other Greek novels) but the story moves along briskly and is a good way to gain fluency in popular koine (as opposed to classical) Greek. Useful for those who want to gain a better feel for the language of the New Testament (and Greek, if not Jewish, popular culture). Review: Goede vertaling zoals we gewoon zijn van Loeb.

Contains 2 romantic tales with both the original classical Greek texts and pleasing English translations. DAPHNIS AND CHLOE. Idyllic classical Greek pastoral love story which served as prototype of many future works of literature, music, painting, and cinema, not to mention utopian primitive social experiments. Setting on the Greek island of Lesbos off the Turkish coast, featuring herdsmen and their Arcadian deities, specifically 2 well-born urban youngsters abandoned to be raised as enslaved primitive peasants marked by protective gods to fall in love with each other. An artificially refined city-dweller's nostalgic fantasy. ANTHIA AND HABROCOMES. Adventurous love story featuring the 2 most beautiful people in the world striving to reunite with one another depite many far-flung obstacles, natural, man-made, and divine. Set in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

A wonderful Ancient novel of innocent love set in a Neoplatonic setting. Longus may be the most well-structure and delightful of the ancient greek novels. well worth the read Henderson's text is eclectic but his decisions do make the greek more readable than any other with perhaps the exception of the Bude and Teubner. And Henderson's translation is very readable, although if your own greek is good, you will prefer that to any translator

Excellent book, I could read the greek font easily, the greek vocabulary was not extensive, and the story line was intriguing...It helped me understand the thoughts, ideals, and ideas of the greeks at about the third century.
