A few flaws, but excellent value for the functionality.
I haven't used any aftermarket stereos before, so I have limited to compare with - but I can say, after one year of using this on a nearly daily basis: 1. Really easy to use. 2. Android Auto works fairly flawlessly. Clearly and easily connected to our android phones and seems to be pretty solid when in use. 3. Easy to install with the right adapter cable (I haven't got the steering wheel controls going yet, but I haven't tried very hard) 4. Good sound quality. A few niggles: 1. Seems to struggle when there are two bluetooth connections simultaneously and not easy to choose between devices. 2. Not all of the settings seem to be 'remembered' e.g. balance. Again this might be my wiring! 3. I'd like to be able to have the brightness automatically adjust to the ambient light. So it's not perfect BUT the cost taken with the functionality overall warrants a 5* review in my view. If you want something simple and straightforward which will let you use Android Auto and link to your phone apps (and NOT something which can install its own apps independently) then this is a great choice.

Perfect
Very good radio! I can only recommend this! Was plug and play in my 2008 KIA Sorento. CarPlay works seamless and the sound is awesome, a lot better than the original radio!!!

Almost perfect
I'm really happy with this. Carplay/android auto works great and the screen quality is bright and clear. There is a little bit of jank, usually from the carplay connection side of things but if youre willing to deal with that from time to time, a great drop in replacement

Decent for price
Installed on 2015 hyundai i10, fits but is a snug. Already had apple car play installed on older device so connecting was simple but would be very complicated if starting from scratch. Works very well, easy to connect with wireless or cable. We accidentally broke the separate mic that comes with the unit but the built in mic actually works very very well. Good value for money

Good, but spoiled by cheap screen.
Eonon X3 review I bought a car with a broken double DIN stereo, and after looking at many budget priced head units, decided to replace it with the Eonon X3. My main reason for choosing this model was that it doesn’t run on Android, and it has a knob! I’m an Apple user, and my main experience of Android devices is that the more you use them the slower they get, unless you spend a fortune on a powerful CPU and lots of memory. I’m hoping that the X3 running a stripped down Linux OS will not suffer this performance drop over time. And yes, I do know that Android is based on Linux (as is IOS). As this car is not driven that often, I couldn’t justify spending silly money on a high hardware spec Android unit, and I was sure that a cheap Android unit would disappoint. I really just needed a radio, bluetooth, MP3 player. CarPlay and reversing camera were bonuses, but see below… I didn’t want to be playing around with lots of flaky apps, especially while driving, so the simplicity of the Linux based X3 appealed. Installation was ok, but the instructions from Eonon were insufficient and I had to contact their support a few times, luckily they responded, so that’s good. The main issue I had on installation was with steering wheel controls, the Eonon instructions were pretty much non existent here. The help that they gave me via email really needs to be incorporated into the instructions supplied with the unit. So far in operation it’s good, the wifi Apple CarPlay works ok apart from the odd disconnection, and sound quality seems very good. However… The biggest issue I have with the X3, hence only 3 stars, is the screen - it’s just not good enough; and is doubtless a victim of the price point. It’s not bright enough in daylight, lacks contrast, and the high gloss surface just reflects the interior of the car. See photo. Yes, I have removed the protective film, and made sure brightness is on max in the settings. There are separate brightness and contrast controls for the panel in settings, but increasing those just bleaches out the maps completely, so that’s not a fix. For navigation it’s sadly pretty much unusable in bright daylight, and I have had to revert back to using my phone for navigation (Waze and Google Maps). Luckily the Eonon X3 has a USB-C charging socket on the front panel. One other annoyance is that the built in radio, and MP3 player, don’t come back on when you start the car. CarPlay fires up, but no radio, so you have to hit the home button to quit CarPlay, select radio, hit home again, then select CarPlay to get back to where you were when you started the car. I contacted Eonon support who advised that this is due to “the systems memory functions”. If you switch the car off with CarPlay active, even with the radio playing in the background, then the radio won’t come back on again when the car is restarted. In summary the Eonon X3 is good; I’m very pleased with the sound quality and overall usability, and it’s way better than any Android based unit at that low price point. The big downside is the screen, I would happily have paid more for a better screen.

Does its job, not very well.
Firstly the unit is quite slow and not very responsive even after a calibration. CarPlay lags around 4 seconds behind to pause or play my music. The CarPlay volume from standard is extremely high and has to be used between 1 and 8 out of around 60. The sound quality is nothing special, the sap they advertise sounds awful and won’t compare to any standard systems. The unit feels very cheap and isn’t on par with any branded name. Not worth buying if you can’t afford better, save your money.

Excellent screen quality and fast boot up
I wanted a media head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay to replace my aging Pioneer SPH-DA120. I’ve tried a few Android head units but they’re all flooded with useless apps and takes years to boot up. The Eonon runs on Linux OS so there’s only essential apps and boots up and connects to Apple CarPlay under 10secs. The screen quality is quite good although there’s a minor blue hint to the picture but nothing disastrous. Another good feature is a physical volume knob and front USB ports. Highly recommended 👍
