Product Description The Estes 7280 Gryphon model-rocket-building kit encourages intermediate-level model-rocket enthusiasts to fly high with enthusiasm. Designed for adults and kids ages 10+ (supervision recommended for ages under 12), this model-rocket-building kit has incredible height and tracking features that make it a real showstopper. Upon hitting apogee, the rocket releases a colorful streamer that helps show where the rocket will land for an easier recovery. While in flight, the stealthy glider moves magically across the sky and gracefully returns to Earth for another flight. The rocket can reach heights up to 700 ft. when powered by Estes engines (sold separately). It includes the reusable parts for launch, including a nose cone, a body tube, a recovery streamer, and design components.Perfect for families, friends, hobbyists, or aspiring rocketeers, the 7280 Gryphon model-rocket-building kit offers hands-on experience in engineering and aerospace. After an estimated assembly time of 1 hour (not including glue- and paint-drying time), this rocket model will be ready for proud display or launch prep.To build and launch this rocket, you will need scissors, a pencil, a ruler, fine sandpaper, yellow glue, plastic cement, wax paper, a hobby knife, masking tape, clear tape, primer (white), paint (gray and white), clear coat (optional), an Estes Porta-Pad II Launch Pad, an Electron Beam Launch Controller, compatible Estes model-rocket engines, Starters, Recovery Wadding, and 4 AA batteries (sold separately). Always follow the NAR (National Association of Rocketry) model-rocket safety code during operation.Estes rocket kits are built from the highest-quality components and designed around the unforgettable experience of pressing “launch.” Our hobby and STEM educational products range across all skill levels, interests, and power levels. Upon opening, it looked a little lackluster, balsa wood glider you have to glue together and paint on a tiny rocket body. After the first launch, I was all smiles as the glider detached perfectly and glided about 2 and half football fields away and landed ever so softly. I was worried the streamer instead of a parachute would damage the rocket body, not at all, it comes down slow like a parachute. Stole the show at the launch site, very interesting and different, and watching the glider fly is fun.

This was a rocket that I built for our Cub Scout pack rocket day. The scouts all get to build a simple, but I like to build a couple unique rockets to show them what else is out there. This was a really fun build that came out beautiful however after only 3 launches the used motor got stuck in the body tube and could not be removed without destroying the rocket. I could have sanded the motor down for a looser fit but didn't want any unexpected results. So now it's a wall hanger which is too bad because the scouts loved it.
