Review: From invasion to retreat - We have quite a collection of children’s books about Rome and Romans in Britain, given dad’s interest in the topic and having visited a number of sites over the past decade (Bath, St Albans, Hadrian’s Wall, Dover castle). Given what we have available I was less keen to buy this book compared to the other books in the excellent series. Even so, my daughter keeps going through these books at a rapid pace and with a lot of enthusiasm. So I thought it a good idea to also get her this one and complete the series, that without doubt will be picked up by her younger brother in a few years time. She loves to read the books throroughtly just for fun and soak up all the information and facts, that she then later uses in discussion with us and to put things in perspective. Obviously these discussions are triggered by the various questions that can be found on each page to help children engage. These books are very colourful and beautifully illustrated with pictures and art on every page. The text is very clear and straightforward, yet informative and highly educational. Also there are very helpful time lines and maps. Topics that are being addressed in this book are some of the emperors that played a role, Boudicca of course, but also religion, road building the Roman retreat ect. It’s quite complete really. ... curriculum it seems and found it very informative and easy to get through at a year 3 level
We bought another book from this series in a previous school term as they are aligned with the national curriculum it seems and found it very informative and easy to get through at a year 3 level. We came back for this one when his topic changed this term and again find this book very well written and full of very good and interesting information laid out in a way that appeals to my 8 year which has helped a lot with retention of the information.

Great for homeschooling
Really well thought out book, we bought it alongside the Romans in Britain guide book. Would have been pointless without it. It kept my daughters interest, was easy to follow and very informative. I've bought several other books in the series. Great for homeschooling.

Great book on Romans for school kids aged 7-9
Great KS2 Year 3 & 4 book on the Romans, so after Britain survived the Stone, Bronze, Iron Age and various Viking invasions, then along came the Romans! This book covers everything from introduction of trading, roads, armies, life as a Roman including home and religion. Then concludes with them going back and retreating! Well recommended book on them pesky Italians who taught us so much! A great collection of books
I really like this series of books. I purchased all of them for my daughter and we read them together. The books are well laid out, lots of interesting pictures and you can dip in and out as it is split into sections. The time line is useful and we have been able to tie together the different books for different time periods.

Die Aufmachung des Schulbuchs ist sehr gut. Es ist interessant gestaltet, das Englisch ist nicht zu schwer, sodass die Lektüre auch deutschen Schülern Spaß macht. Wirklich empfehlenswert.
