Artist′s Complete Guide to Facial Expression, The

Covers all the ranges of muscle movements and provides you with all the knowledge you will ever need, as a portrait tattooist this book is my bible. He goes in very deep with latin names but its never without justification. All i need to say is short, if you draw portraits in any medium, this book although slightly dated will never age nor let you down. Unless we modify our faces beyond recognition that is. Grab yourself a mirror, start drawing eyes, then after a few sketches you will find you can draw a realistic eye from memory, apply this to the nose, mouth, ear etc and wonder how you never noticed the little details in someone's smile before.

I like this book a lot, i am a new starter at having a go at drawing and painting. This book has given me so much info,i found it very easy to follow. The drawings by the artist Gary Faigin are concise and have much detail on where to apply shading. The facial expressions he has drawn are amazing. With this books help, i have attempted drawing a couple of faces, and i am very pleased with the result. This is a wonderful book, thank you Gary Faigin.

I worked through this book, and learnt a lot. I had worked through a book on drawing heads a couple of years ago. That one concentrated on shading. This book explains how the muscles change the appearance of the face. I felt I ought to have noticed much of it before but I had not. It made explicit what you instinctively knew but could not have explained. I am glad I bought it.

This book is brilliant. It is absolutely packed with inspiring information to help me advance my ability to render faces with character. Every page is dripping with advice and inspiration and the illustrations are excellent. I highly recommend this book, particularly as a complement to something like the Andrew Loomis book (Drawing the Head and Hands) as this book is an advancement of the basics.

This book is wonderful. The reference pieces are varied and engaging, the text is lyrical, and the level anatomical detail is perfectly pitched for someone looking to understand how to draw faces with greater clarity. It's not a completely introductory book; you need some understanding of how to construct the skull and planes of the head, but the author's drawings provided are simple and direct.

Having just puchased this most informitive book is the best item i have bought in a long time. i now look at faces and eyes in a totaly different way and am learning the names of the facial muscles as well ,anatomy and art all in one exellent book well worth the money.

If you are interested in realistic drawn facial expressions this is an absolute must have. And the delivery was the fastest I have ever experienced from Amazon.

I haven't had time to look properly through this book, which was thicker than I expected! So excellent for the money spent. Great condition & wonderfully packaged & postage was as it should be. Many thanks for a great deal!

The book is an excellent guide to learn how to draw faces. All drawings comes in a very big size and helps you to appreciate all the details, so you can understand better the gesture. It is a great book to learn how to draw faces and people quickly. By studying this book, you can improve your urban sketching techniques, when drawing face gestures, tracing faster and accurate lines to better capture the magic moment.

Soy estudiante de animación y hubiera deseado tener este libro en mis cursos de dibujo ya que al momento de entrar a retrato, siempre comienzan con el viejo mito de que el dibujo es observación, lo cual no es necesariamente falso, pero si no sabes exactamente que estas viendo y como analizarlo, jamás vas a interiorizar el conocimiento que se requiere para lograr un buen retrato o una buena expresión que se vea natural. Esto es una fuente de inmensa frustración para los que van comenzando a dibujar y este libro acaba con todo este problema. Yo complementaría el libro de construcción de la cabeza de Loomis con este (no porque a este le falte algo si no porque asume que la persona que lo esta leyendo ya sabe lo básico) para tener absolutamente todo lo que se necesita para dibujar retratos, o si estas en animación, darle a tu diseño de personaje más rango emocional.

Beaucoup de blablas, peu de schémas. Les croquis de Faigin sont infects, inintéressants, et surtout inexploitables pour un dessinateur. Les seuls bons dessins ne sont pas de lui (Rembrandt quand même !). sérieuse déception !

顔の大百科という感じです。表情についてとても参考になります。以前は、雑誌の切り抜き写真を見ながら顔を描いていました。しかし、雑誌の写真というのはライトのあて具合などから考えて、陰影が余りわからない部分が多く、技量不足も手伝って、顔を描いても平面でのっぺりした絵しか描けませんでした。この顔の大百科の場合は、顔の筋肉や表情によって目の形などが細かく載っているので、非常に参考になり、またほとんどが顔のデッサンなので陰影の参考にもなります。 値段は洋書の美術書にしては高く感じますが、和書にしたら恐らく１万以上はするだろうと思われるボリュームです。全編英語ですが、訳せないほど難しいとは思われませんし、基本は絵なので問題は無いと思います。 注意していただきたいのが、あくまで表情の描き方であり、リアルな頭部の描き方では無いと思われますので、ある程度頭部を描ける方がより力になると思います。
